1. Disconnect battery ground cable. 2. Remove air cleaner assembly. 3. Remove radiator upper fan shroud from radiator. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. Move drive belt tensioner to loose side using wrench then remove drive belt. Remove cooling fan assembly four nuts, then the cooling fan assembly. Remove cooling fan drive pulley assembly. Remove idle pulley assembly. Remove serpentine belt tensioner assembly. Remove power steering pump assembly. Remove crankshaft pulley assembly using J-8614-01 crankshaft holder, hold crankshaft pulley remove center bolt, then the pulley. Remove right side timing belt cover then left side timing belt cover. Remove lower timing belt cover. 1998 Isuzu Truck Rodeo LS (2WD) V6-3.2L 13. Remove pusher. CAUTION: The pusher prevents air from entering the oil chamber. Its rod must always be facing upward. 14. Remove timing belt. CAUTION: 1. Do not bend or twist the belt, otherwise its core could be damaged. The belt should not be bent at a radius less than 30 mm. 2. Do not allow oil or other chemical substances to come in contact with the belt. They will shorten the life. 3. Do not attempt to pry or stretch the belt with a screw driver or any other tool during installation. 4. Store timing belt in a cool and dark place. Never expose the belt direct sunlight or heat. TSB SB05-05-5004 Shift Lock Solenoid ISSUE DATE: MAY 2005 Affected Vehicles 2002-2004 Isuzu Axiom (UP) 1998-2004 Isuzu Rodeo (UE) and Rodeo Sport (UA) Service Information Use the following steps to remove and replace the Shift Lock Solenoid. Service Procedure 1. Access the Shift Lock Solenoid by removing the Center, Front, Rear Console Assemblies, Selector Lever Knob, and Cover Assembly. Refer to the Selector Lever section in the Service Manual. 2. Set parking brake, move Selector Lever to lowest gear, and remove the Shift Lock Cable. 3. Remove the two screws securing the Shift Lock Solenoid to the Selector Lever subassembly. Disconnect the Shift Lock Solenoid 2-pin connector. 4. Disconnect the 1-40 (Rodeo) or 1-3 (Axiom) six-pin connector and slide the female connector off bracket. Remove the Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) Lock from the connector. Locate the two blue wires in position 1 and 3 on the female connector. With appropriate tool (shown above), apply light pressure upward on the connector locking tab while gently pulling on the blue wire to release. Note :Never use force to remove a terminal from a connector. 5. Insert the two blues wires from the replacement Shift Lock Solenoid into the 1- 40 (Rodeo) or 1-3 (Axiom) female connector. It does not matter which blue wire is inserted into the 1 and 3 position. Gently tug the blue wires to make sure they are secure. NOTE iscard the extra 2-pin connector sub harness included with replacement Shift Lock Solenoid P/N 8-97181-068-2. 6. Reconnect the Shift Lock Solenoid 2-pin connector and reattach the two screws securing the Shift Lock Solenoid to the selector lever subassembly. 7. Reconnect the 1-40 (Rodeo) or 1-3 (Axiom) six-pin connector and slide the female connector onto the bracket. 8. Reinstall the Selector Lever Knob, Cover Assembly, Center, Front, and Rear Console Assemblies. Refer to the Selector Lever section in the Service Manual. 9. Check Shift Lock operation: a. With ignition key in “Lock” position, Selector lever should not move from “P” position. b. With ignition key in “ON” position and brake pedal depressed. Selector lever can be moved out of “P” position. c. Key can be removed only when turned to “LOCK” position and selector lever is in “P” position.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the engine cover. 3. Remove the common chamber assembly. Refer to Common Chamber in Engine Mechanical. 4. Disconnect the electrical connector to the CMP sensor. 5. Remove the CMP retaining bolt from the side of left cylinder head. 6. Remove the CMP sensor from the cylinder head.

NOTE: There is no need to change the transmission fluid unless the transmission is used under one or more of the following heavy duty conditions. If the vehicle is used under these conditions, change the fluid every 20,000 miles (32,000 km.) . A: Repeated short trips B: Driving on rough roads C: Driving on dusty roads D: Towing a trailer 1. Place a large drain pan under the oil pan. 2. Remove the transmission oil drain screw and drain fluid. 3. Tighten drain screw. Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) . 4. Remove the transmission overfill screw and fill transmission through overfill screw opening, using DEXRON-III ATF. 5. Let engine idle until a fluid temperature between 32°C (90°F) and57°C (135°F) is reached. 6. Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening, then close the overfill screw. Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) . NOTE: Transmission fluid temperature to be check with service tool. See: Powertrain Management\Transmission Control Systems\Testing and Inspection
