1. REMOVE BACK DOOR ASSIST GRIP a. Using a screwdriver, open the covers. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. b. Remove the 2 screws and assist grip. 2. REMOVE BACK DOOR PULL STRAP a. Using a screwdriver, remove the strap cover. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip 3. REMOVE CENTER GARNISH Using a screwdriver, remove the center garnish. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. 4. REMOVE SIDE GARNISH a. Using a screwdriver, remove the side garnish. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side. 5. REMOVE DOOR TRIM BOARD a. Insert a screwdriver between the door and door trim board to pry the door trim board out. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the door and door trim board. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. b. Pull the door trim board to remove it. 6. REMOVE HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LIGHT a. Remove the 2 screws. b. Disconnect the connector. c. Remove the high-mounted stop light. 7. REMOVE WASHER NOZZLE 8. REMOVE REAR WIPER ARM Remove the nut, rear wiper arm. Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) 9. REMOVE WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY a. Remove the 3 bolts from the wiper motor. b. Remove the 2 bolts and wiper motor and link assembly. Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) c. Remove the grommet. 10. REMOVE COMBINATION LIGHTS 11. REMOVE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT ASSEMBLY a. Disconnect the back door control cable from the handle lever. b. Disconnect the connector. c. Remove the 3 nuts. d. Using a screwdriver, remove the license plate light assembly. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. e. Remove the handle lever from the license plate light cover. f. Remove the license plate light assembly from the license plate light cover. 12. REMOVE KEY CYLINDER

Some customers may experience decreased air volume from the HVAC vents when the temperature is set to maximum heat. Use the following repair procedure to address the customer concerns. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), model year repair manual: • 2007 / 2008 Tacoma Vehicle Interior – Heating/Air Conditioning – “Air Conditioning Unit: Removal” 2. Remove the 4 bolts and the lower defrost nozzle assembly. 3. Remove the 2 bolts and the heater to register duct. 4. Remove the No. 1 air duct. A. Remove the bolt. B. Disengage the 3 claws and remove the air duct. 5. Remove the air inlet assembly. A. Remove the air ?lter. B. Remove the 4 bolts and 1 clip that mount the air inlet assembly. C. Remove the cooler thermistor clip from the air inlet case. Figure 5. 6. Remove the mode damper control assembly. A. Remove the 3 bolts on the mode mounting plate. B. Remove the mode damper control assembly including mode cam, mode mounting plate, and mode control servo. 7. Remove the temperature damper control assembly. A. Remove the 3 bolts on the temperature control mounting plate. B. Remove the temperature damper control assembly including temperature control cam, mounting plate, and servo. Figure 9. 8. 2007 – 2008 model year North American Production Camry and Camry HV vehicles may complain of a creaking noise from the front passenger side of the vehicle. This condition may occur when the body ?exes while driving on rough roads, over speed bumps, under harsh turns or heavy braking conditions. Use the following repair procedure to address this concern. Repair Procedure 1. Remove cool air intake duct seal (for 2GR-FE). A. Remove the 7 clips and cool air intake duct seal. 2. Remove the front bumper assembly. A. Put protective tape around the front bumper assembly. NOTE Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side. B. Using a screwdriver, turn the pin 90 degrees and remove the pin hold clip. NOTE Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side. C. Remove the 8 screws, 2 clips, 2 radiator grille protectors, and bolt. D. Disengage the 2 claws and disconnect the front bumper assembly as shown in the illustration. Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side. E. Without fog lights: Remove the front bumper assembly. NOTE For vehicles with fog lights: Disconnect each connector, and then remove the front bumper assembly. 3. Remove RH headlight assembly. A. Remove the bolt and 2 screws. B. Disconnect the connectors and remove the headlight assembly. 4. Remove RH rocker panel molding. A. Remove the 2 screws and rocker panel molding protector. B. Put protective tape around the rocker panel molding. Figure 8. 1 Protective Tape C. Remove the 2 screws and grommet. D. Remove the screw. E. Remove the 7 clips. F. Remove the 2 screws. G. Disengage the 8 clips and remove the rocker panel molding. 5. Remove cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly. A. Remove the nut, front wiper arm, and blade assembly LH. B. Remove the nut, front wiper arm, and blade assembly RH. C. Disengage the claw and remove the front fender to cowl side seal LH.

(b) Remove the 8 bolts, 4 nuts, 4 plate washers, the intake manifold assembly and 2 gaskets. 16. REMOVE TIMING BELT (See page EM–13) 17. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (a) Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector. (b) Disconnect the clamp from the No.3 timing belt cover. (c) Remove the bolt and camshaft position sensor. 18. REMOVE NO.3 TIMING BELT COVER Remove the 6 bolts and timing belt cover. 19. REMOVE GENERATOR (See page CH–15)

Removal 1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel. Remove shock absorber. See LOWER CONTROL ARM & BALL JOINT . Remove hub grease cap. Remove ABS speed sensor and wire harness clamp from steering knuckle. Remove brakeline bracket from steering knuckle. Remove the bolt and separate the brake tube bracket from the steering knuckle. Using Special Tool (09023-00100), disconnect the brake tube from the front disc brake caliper assembly. Remove the bolt and separate the brake tube bracket from the steering knuckle. Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake caliper assembly. Remove rotor. 2. On 4WD models, using a screwdriver and a hammer, remove the front axle hub grease cap. Remove the cotter pin and a lock cap. Remove the front axle hub nut. On all models, remove the nut and separate the stabilizer link assembly from the steering knuckle. Remove the cotter pin. Using Special Tool (09628- 62011), separate the tie rod end sub-assembly from the steering knuckle. 3. Remove 2 lower ball joint bolts, and disconnect lower ball joint. Remove upper ball joint, cotter pin and retaining nut. Using ball joint separator, separate upper ball joint from knuckle. On 4WD models, using a plastic hammer, separate the front axle hub from the front drive shaft. Remove the front axle hub sub- assembly. On all models, remove steering knuckle with hub. Installation To install, reverse removal procedure. Clean bolt threads. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Depress brake pedal several times. Check front wheel alignment. Ensure ABS speed sensor has a good signal.
