Engine Electrical > Firing Orders Firing Orders To avoid confusion, always replace spark plugs and wires one at a time. Replacing spark plugs and wires one at a time will help prevent incorrect wire routing or cross-firing resulting from an incorrect firing order. If more than one wire is to be disconnected at a single time, be sure to tag all of the cables to assure proper installation. Also, be disconnecting the cables, compare the firing order and routing to these diagrams and note any differences for installation purposes. This will help assure the wires are properly installed.

Engine miss, spark knock, buck/jerk, surge and other driveability concerns may be caused by induction crossfire. This occurs because of improperly routed spark plug wires. ACTION: If spark plug replacement is performed, the correct firing order and spark plug wire routing is essential to prevent the possibility of induction crossfire between cylinders. Refer to the following procedures for inspection of the spark plug wire routing and firing order. Properly reroute the spark plug wires if required. FIRING ORDER ^ The firing order for 1987-1993 vehicles is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. If # 7 and # 8, or # 2 and # 4 spark plug wires are routed next to each other at the separation bracket, an induction crossfire condition can occur. ^ The firing order for 1994 vehicles is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. On these vehicles the # 1 and # 3, or # 5 and # 6 spark plug wires must be separated to eliminate the possibility of an induction crossfire. ^ To eliminate the possibility of the coil wire becoming disconnected, route the coil wire under the spark plug wires at the distributor cap. 1987-1993 VEHICLES

Some customers may experience a water leak at the front floor area. Water may be Introduction entering the body due to a body sealer void on the engine compartment rear wall, near the upper door hinge. Repair 1. Raise the vehicle. On the side of the vehicle that has the water leak, remove the front Procedure wheel and the front fender plastic liner. 2. Examine (with flash light and mirror) the body sealer condition on the engine compartment rear wall, near the upper door hinge. Also examine the sealer condition inside the inner fender box frame structure with access holes (see illustration).

Removing the stock air inlet system
a) Before removing any of the O.E. components, label each individual part so that no components become mixed up during the installation process. There are two Vacuum Switching Valves (VSV), and one air flow meter that have electrical and/or vacuum connections going to them. Be sure to label these connections before disconnecting them.
Remove b) Remove the two nuts and two plastic rivets that hold the plastic engine cover on. The
plastic rivets may be gently lifted with a small screwdriver. Remove the cover. c) Remove the bolt in the radiator support that holds the battery bracket. Unhook the rod at the rear of the battery bracket. Remove the battery from the vehicle
