Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Headlight (Xenon Headlight) WARNING: Follow instructions for handling light bulbs (exterior lights). Unclip strip (1) in direction of arrow. Release screws (2) underneath. Turn cap (1) approx. 30 degrees counterclockwise and remove from headlight (2). Loosen screws (1). Release screws (2). Installation: – Observe gap dimensions. – Adjust headlights. Pull bumper panel (1) forwards slightly and feed out headlight (2) in direction of arrow. Installation: Make sure headlight (2) is correctly seated in lower holder. Unlock and disconnect associated plug connections (3). Remove headlight (2). Replacement: – - – Unclip headlight holder (1) and remove. Remove ignition unit and bulb for xenon headlight (2). Remove control unit for xenon headlight (3). Installation: Retaining lugs (1) on headlight holder (2) must not be damaged. Make sure headlight holder (2) is correctly engaged on headlight.

Test Requirements Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required Head light adjusting unit VAS 5046 or Headlight adjuster VAS 5047 Test- and adjustment requirements: Tire pressure must be OK. Lenses must not be damaged or dirty. Reflectors and bulbs OK. Vehicle must be properly loaded. Move vehicle back and forth for 1 meter (3 to 4 feet) or bounce front and rear of vehicle several times up and down to settle suspension. Vehicle and headlight adjuster must be on a level surface. Operating instructions of headlight adjuster VAS 5046 or Operating instructions of headlight adjuster VAS 5047 Inclination must be set. If the vehicle is equipped with separate low beams and high beams, high beam must be adjusted extra. Note that the adjuster must be set to 0% when adjusting the high beams. In the trim above the headlight, inclination measurements are stamped in “%” . The headlamps must be adjusted according to these measurements. Percentage information is based on a projection distance of 10 meters. For example: inclination of 1.0 % converts to approx. 10 cm. For vehicles with halogen headlamps and manual headlamp range control Note: For certain markets, no manual headlamp range control is offered in conjunction with halogen headlamps. The headlight range adjuster thumb wheel, if present, must be in basic setting – 0 – . Load: Vehicle must be loaded with one person on the drivers seat, weighing 165 lbs (75 kg), otherwise vehicle must be empty (curb weight). The curb weight is the weight of the vehicle ready to be operated with filled fuel tank (at least 90% filled), including the weight of all equipment usually carried in the car such as spare wheel, tools, car jack, fire extinguisher, etc. If the fuel tank is not at least 90% full, adjust the weight as follows: Read fuel level from fuel gauge. Remove the headlamp bezel and retaining ring attaching screws. Remove the bezel and retaining ring. 2. Pull the headlight out, disconnect the wire harness and remove the headlight from the vehicle. 3. Install the headlight in the reverse order of removal. Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer Models 1. Open the hood, reach into the engine compartment and locate the lock ring supporting the bulb assembly. 2. Rotate the lock ring 1 / 8 turn counterclockwise and pull the bulb straight out from the housing. To install: 3. Install a new bulb and position the bulb assembly in the lamp housing. 4. Rotate the lock ring 1 / 8 turn clockwise to secure.

On the side of the vehicle that has the water leak, remove the front Procedure wheel and the front fender plastic liner. 2. Examine (with flash light and mirror) the body sealer condition on the engine compartment rear wall, near the upper door hinge. Also examine the sealer condition inside the inner fender box frame structure with access holes (see illustration).

Removing Main Headlight WARNING: Risk of destruction of electrical and electronic components: Before removing the headlights, take out the ignition key and switch off the lights. Risk of damage to the headlights due to: Abrasion and excessive temperatures. Headlights must not be covered when they are switched on, e.g. wing protection or film. NOTE: The description refers to the left headlight.Press down the cover “1″ in the engine compartment and remove it. 2. Slide a socket wrench “5″ on the release arm and release it in the direction of arrow “A”. 3. The headlight is now unlocked and can be pulled forward out of the wing. NOTE: If the Bi-Xenon main headlight is replaced, the control unit must be installed for the gas discharge from the old to the new main headlights. Installing Main Headlights NOTE: Do not attach any covers (e.g. stone shields or films) in the area of the headlights. Switch ignition off and remove ignition key. The description refers to the left headlight. “2″ Cover. “3″ Headlight release. “4″ Fender. 1. Insert the headlight into the guide rails and push it fully into the fender. 2. Press the headlight towards the rear and, at the same time, turn the socket wrench “5″ “arrow B”. The headlight locking mechanism must lock in audibly and noticeably. 3. Check that the headlights fit properly, e.g., by pulling gently in the area of the auxiliary high beam headlight.
