Check horn fuse 6 in the Power Distribution Center and fuse 7 in the Junction Block. If fuse is blown refer to FUSE BLOWN. If fuse is OK, refer to FUSE OK. Fuse Blown 1. Verify condition of battery terminals and voltage, refer to Battery If battery connections and battery charge is OK proceed to Step 2. . Using a voltmeter, test for battery voltage at both sides of horn fuse 7. If voltage is
OK, on both sides of fuse, proceed to Fuse OK. If voltage is OK, on one side of fuse, the fuse is blown, proceed to Step 3. 3. Using a suitable ammeter in place of the fuse, test amperage draw of the horn circuit. If amperage draw is greater than 20 amps without the horn switch depressed, a grounded circuit exists between the fuse and the horn relay Proceed to Step 4. If amperage draw is greater than 20 amps with the horn switch depressed, a grounded circuit exists between the horn relay and the horn. Proceed to step Step 5. 4. Remove the horn relay from the Junction Block. If the amperage draw drops to 0 amps , the horn switch or circuit is shorted. If the amperage draw does not drop to 0 amps , repair short at the Junction Block.

While installing the tube and hose assembly, be sure to align white marks on each fitting. Pressure Hose and Tube 1. Remove the air intake hose assembly. 2. Detach the pressure hose mounting clamp. 3. Disconnect the pressure tube fitting at the gear box side. 2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon L4-2.0L 4. Lift up the vehicle and detach the mounting clamp which is holding both the pressure tube and the return tube. 5. Lift down the vehicle and remove the connector (24 mm). 6. Remove the pressure hose and tube assembly. 7. Installation is the reverse order of removal. NOTE: 1. Install the pressure hose and tube so that they are not twisted and they do not come in contact with any other parts. 2. After installation, bleed the system. Return Tube and Hose 1. Detach the power steering fluid reservoir from its mounting bracket. 2. Remove the engine coolant reservoir. 2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon L4-2.0L 3. Detach the return tube and hose assembly mounting clamps. 4. Remove the air intake hose assembly. 5. Disconnect the pressure tube and the return tube fittings at the gear box side. 6. Lift up the vehicle and detach the mounting clamp which is holding both the pressure tube and the return tube. 7. Lift down the vehicle and disconnect the clamp holding the return tube & hose assembly (G) and (C). 2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon L4-2.0L 8. Remove the return tube & hose assembly (G). 9. Detach the air conditioning discharge hose mounting clamp. 10. Disconnect the clamp holding the return tube & hose assembly (C) and the oil cooler tube. 11. Remove the return tube & hose assembly (C). 12. Installation is the reverse order of removal. NOTE: 1. Install the return tube and hose assembly so that it is not twisted and it does not come in contact with any other parts. 2. After installation, bleed the system. Oil Cooler Tube 1. Remove the front bumper and rail assembly. (Refer to Body and Frame.) 2. Disconnect the connection of the oil cooler tube from the return tube. 3. Disconnect the connection of the coil cooler tube from the return hose of the fluid reservoir.

1. Working in the engine bay, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws over the driver’s side headlight and a 10mm
socket with a ratchet and an extension to remove the 10mm bolt holding the splash guard. Remove the splash guard from the engine bay. Loosen the 10mm bolt (shown by the top arrow) holding the top part of the air box to the throttle body inlet and unclip
the 2 clips holding this part of the air box to the bottom part (also shown by two arrows). Remove the top part of the air box and the
air filter as well. 2. Remove the three 10mm bolts at the bottom of the air box using the socket and ratchet with extension. Remove the bottom part of the air box from the engine bay.

If a 2001-02 Elantra or 2000-02 Accent is experiencing the following symptoms: ^ Unstable idle ^ Uneven throttle response ^ Slip and shock during the 1-2 and 2-3 shift on Automatic Transaxle (ATM) equipped vehicles ^ Erratic ATM shifts with possible shift flare (engine RPM increase during shifts) ^ Check engine light is ON (may go off but the code will remain stored) ^ TPS related code stored in the ECM and/or TCM REPAIR INFORMATION: 1) TEST # 1: If a faulty TPS is suspected and the ECM/TCM has no codes stored, conduct the following test for high idle: ^ Have the vehicle idling (with all accessories turned off), transmission in park (ATM) or neutral (MTM), and the hand brake fully applied. ^ Using the Hi-Scan Pro’s flight recording menu, observe and record the TPS, Idle Switch Position and engine RPM. ^ Slowly operate the throttle cam to increase the engine speed to about 2500 rpm (use the Hi-Scan Pro to observe the engine speed). ^ Slowly release the throttle cam back to the idle position. Observe the TPS and engine RPM readings on the Hi-Scan Pro. ^ Repeat the above process 10 times.

TIMING BELT Removal
1. Remove all drive belts and drive pulleys from crankshaft and water pump. Remove generator bolt, if necessary. Remove crankshaft pulley and water pump pulley. 2. Remove timing belt covers and gaskets, noting bolt lengths and locations. DO NOT rotate engine counterclockwise, as viewed from timing belt side of engine. Remove timing belt tensioner pulley. 3. Rotate engine clockwise to align all timing marks so No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. See Fig. 1 . If reusing belt, place mark on timing belt to indicate direction of belt rotation. Remove belt. CAUTION: This application is an interference engine. Do not rotate camshaft or crankshaft when timing belt is removed, or engine damage may occur. NOTE: On some models, engine is equipped with a timing belt and timing chain. Inspect timing chain when replacing timing belt.
