Window Regulator, Power Front Door—Town Car Removal 1. CAUTION: When servicing front door power window regulator minus motor (23208), regulator cable tension must not be altered. Cable tension is preset at production. Improper adjustment may result in premature front door power window regulator failure or erratic operation. CAUTION: Be careful not to drill through the window regulator behind inner door panel. Additional repairs may be necessary. If front door window glass (21410) is in the down position and is inoperable, a through f must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, proceed to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and front door trim shield (237A04). Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01. c. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass. Remove three 1/4 inch rivets retaining window regulator electric drive (23394) to inner panel. d. Working through front access hole in inner panel, remove three screws from window regulator electric drive. e. Separate window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor. Raise front door window glass by hand and secure using tape. f. Proceed to Step 2. 2. Remove front door window glass as outlined. 3. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wiring connector. 4. Remove two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 5. NOTE: Use care not to enlarge sheet metal holes in the door inner panel. Remove two 1/4-inch rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to inner door panel. 6. Remove front door power window regulator minus motor from front door (20124). Installation 1. Lubricate front door power window regulator minus motor with Teflon® Lubricant E7FZ-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C111-A as outlined. 2. Install front door power window regulator minus motor into access hole in inner panel. 3. Position front door power window regulator minus motor using upper front door power window regulator studs and tabs on window regulator electric drive mounting bracket. 4. Install rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to door inner panel (1/4-20 x 1/2 inch screw and 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies or equivalent metric fasteners may be used as alternates). 5. Install two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 6. Install Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 7. Adjust Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 8. Install front door trim shield and front door trim panel. Refer to Section 01-05. Front Door—Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Removal 1. If front door window glass is in the down position and is inoperable, the following steps must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, go to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield. Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01. c. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wires. d. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass because it could break. Remove window regulator electric drive retaining screws through holes. e. Remove window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor.

WARNING: IF THE REGULATOR COUNTERBALANCE SPRING MUST BE REMOVED OR REPLACED FOR ANY REASON, MAKE SURE THAT THE REGULATOR ARMS ARE IN A FIXED POSITION PRIOR TO REMOVAL TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY DURING C-SPRING UNWIND. 1. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and front door inside panel sound insulator (20394) . Refer to Section 01-05. 2. Remove inside door belt weatherstrip. 3. Remove front door window glass (21410) as described. 4. Remove two nut and washer assemblies attaching the window regulator equalizer arm bracket (23230) . 5. Remove four rivets for RH side (six for LH side) retaining the front door window regulator base plate to door inner panel. 6. Remove front door window regulator (23200) and front door window channel bracket (23288) from vehicle. 7. Working on a bench, carefully bend tab flat to remove front door window regulator arm slides from front door window channel bracket. 8. NOTE: Use care not to break tab; if tab is cracked or broken, replace front door window channel bracket . Make sure rubber bumper is installed properly on new front door window channel bracket , if replacement is made. Install new front door window regulator arm plastic guides into front door window channel bracket and bend tab back to 90 degrees. Installation NOTE: The front door window channel bracket and window regulator electric drive (23394) are installed into the vehicle as one assembly. The front door window channel bracket may be disassembled from the window regulator electric drive as described in Door Glass and Regulator, Power Windows. 1. Install window regulator electric drive with preassembled front door window channel bracket into vehicle. Set the regulator base plate to door inner panel using base plate locator tab as a guide. 2. NOTE: Two 1/4-20 x 1 inch bolts and two 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies may be used as alternates for glass retention. However, torque must not exceed 4-7 Nm (36- 61 lb-in). Equivalent metric retainers may be used. Install four rivets to retain front door window regulator to door inner panel. 3. Install window regulator equalizer arm bracket . 4. Lower front door window regulator arms to access holes in door inner panel. Install front door window glass as described. 5. Install inside door belt weatherstrip. 6. Adjust front door window glass to make sure it is properly aligned with glass run. Check window for smooth operation. 7. Install front door trim panel and front door inside panel sound insulator . 1. Remove the trim panel. 2. Remove the water deflector. 3. Raise the window far enough in order to gain access through the door inner panel to the window to regulator bolts (2). 4. Remove the window to regulator bolts. 5. Raise the window to the full up position. 6. Tape the window in the full up position. 7. Disconnect the electrical connector. 8. Remove the regulator mounting bolts (1,2,3,4). 9. Remove the regulator from the door. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Install the regulator to the door. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. IMPORTANT: In order to ensure proper orientation of the window regulator to the door, tighten the window regulator bolts in the specified sequence (1,2,3,4). 2. Install the regulator mounting bolts. Tighten Tighten the window regulator bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in). 3. Install the electrical connector. 4. Remove the tape. 5. Lower the window far enough in order to gain access through the door inner panel for the bolts. 6. Install the window to regulator bolts (2). Tighten Tighten the window to regulator bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in). 7. Install the water deflector. 8. Install the trim panel.

Removal Procedure 1. Lower the window to the full down position. 2. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement – Side Front Door (See: Body and Frame\Doors, Hood and Trunk\Front Door Panel\Service and Repair\Front Door Panel Replacement\Trim Panel Replacement – Side Front Door) . 3. Remove the radio speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement – Front Door in Entertainment. 4. Remove the water deflector in order to access the window regulator. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement – Front Door (See: Body and Frame\Doors, Hood and Trunk\Front Door Panel\Service and Repair\Front Door Panel Components\Water Deflector Replacement – Front Door) . Disengage the door glass to the regulator sash channel clips (2). Separate the door glass from the sash channel (1). 6. Push the window to the up position and tape in place. 7. Loosen the power window regulator bolts. Remove the rear regulator bolt. 8. Lift the window regulator, disengaging the loosened bolts from the door. 9. Disconnect the regulator electrical connector. 10. Remove the power window regulator from the door. Installation Procedure

To improve power door window serviceability on SC 400/300, GS 300, and ES 300, a wire regulator subassembly is now available as separate supply parts. REPAIR PROCEDURES: ^ ^ ^ Verify motor operates properly. If the motor must be replaced, change the complete regulator assembly. If motor operation is correct, replace only the regulator subassembly. Use the following procedures when replacing the subassembly. 1992 Lexus SC 400 V8-4.0L (1UZ-FE) WINDOW REGULATOR DISASSEMBLY: 1. REMOVE COVER PLATE ^ Remove the two screws and cover plate; see figure 1. Note: The screws and cover plate are reusable. ^ Pry up the cover plate tab using a small flat-head screwdriver and remove the plate. Use care not to damage the motor housing; see figure 2. Note: The cover plate is not reusable. 2. REMOVE WINDOW REGULATOR DRUM AND WIRE GUIDE FROM MOTOR HOUSING USING NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS (SEE FIGURE 3). Caution: Do not use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the drum and wire guide. WINDOW REGULATOR INSTALLATION: 1. INSERT THE WINDOW REGULATOR DRUM INTO THE MOTOR HOUSING. 1992 Lexus SC 400 V8-4.0L (1UZ-FE) Note: ^ To prevent the window regulator drum and cable from coming off, do not tilt the drum, subject it to shocks or use force. If the cable comes off the drum, do not rewind the cable or reuse it. After the window regulator is installed, do not operate it manually (some window regulators do not utilize a stopper). ^ Multipurpose grease (P/N OO289-1WG00) should be applied to all moving parts, especially inside the motor housing and sides of the window regulator drum.
