The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information: The identification of the control module(s) which command the system. The ability of the control module(s) to communicate through the serial data circuit. The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status. The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located. DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK – THEFT DETERRENT Test Description The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table. 2: Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition. 5: The presence of DTCs which begin with “U” indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed. 6: The listed DTCs are internal module malfunctions and should be corrected before attempting any other diagnostics. 7: The listed DTCs are battery voltage related malfunctions and should be corrected before attempting any other diagnostics.

The following diagnostics might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the conditlon(s) described above. Use the appropriate recommendation based on what symptom has occurred. Recommendation/Instructions No DTCs Review Corporate Bulletin Number 05-02-32-002B to assure you do not have a blown 60 amp steering fuse. The fuse can be blown during improper jump starting of the vehicle on the HHR and ION. Check for this particularly for tow in conditions. DO NOT replace the steering column unless an internal short has been Identified in the column that is causing fuse to blow. Power Steering Warning Message on DIC with DTCs C0176 and C0476 This condition is often the result of excessive lock-to-lock turns of the steering wheel, causing the thermal protection in the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) to take the steering motor temporarily off line. This is a normal operating characteristic of the system. DO NOT replace the steering column for this condition. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 06-02-32-002B for additional information

Typically, the throttle plate angle parameter is 12-20% at time of condition with vehicle speed of approximately 24-40 km/h (15-25 mph). The customer may describe the condition as slip or delayed shift into second. Correction Replace the complete second clutch assembly with service kit, P/N 24240561. Refer to the GM Unit Repair Service Manual for the year and model of the vehicle being serviced for the 2nd Clutch service procedure. This service kit contains: Second Clutch Housing Fluid Seal Rings (613), a Second Clutch Assembly (617), a Case Cover (Channel Plate) Upper Gasket (430), and a Case Cover (Channel Plate) Lower Gasket (429). In addition to the content of this service kit, other gaskets not included in this service kit will also be needed to complete the repair – a Case Cover Lower Gasket (429), and a Case Cover Upper Gasket (430). These gaskets can be obtained by ordering gasket kit 24206391. Be sure to use ONLY the Second Clutch Assembly and Second Clutch Housing Fluid Seal Rings provided in this service kit. DISCARD the Second Clutch Assembly and Second Clutch Housing Fluid Seal Rings removed from the transmission being serviced. Disassemble ONLY the Oil Pump Assembly from the Case Cover (Complete). DO NOT disassemble the Control Valve Body from the Case Cover. Remove ONLY the Case Cover-to-Case bolts to remove the Case Cover and Valve Body from Transmission Case AS AN ASSEMBLY . To access all Case Cover-to-Case bolts, it is necessary to remove the Pressure Control Solenoid Valve Assembly (322), and 1-2 & 3-4 Shift Solenoid Valve

Subject: Clunk, Knock or Rattle Noise From Front of Vehicle While Driving or Turning Over Bumps at Low Speeds (Diagnose Noise and Perform Outlined Repair) Models: 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu Classic 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 2007-2010 Saturn Aura Supercede: This bulletin is being revised to update the models years and revise the information for Correction 2. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 06-02-32-007E (Section 02 – Steering). Condition 1 Some customers may comment on a clunk noise heard and felt in the steering wheel while driving at slow speeds and turning. The clunk noise may appear to be directly in front of the driver. Hitting a bump while turning can produce the clunk noise. Sometimes the noise may be duplicated when the vehicle is sitting still and the steering wheel is turned 90 degrees in either direction before initially centering the steering wheel. Cause 1 The clunk noise may be caused by a slip/stick condition between the inner and outer components of the intermediate shaft. Important Revised design intermediate shafts went into production in the 2009 model year and are the only design currently available through GMSPO since approximately September 2008. Since any model year vehicle could have had a second design shaft installed, it is critical to identify it before proceeding. The revised design intermediate shafts will NOT tolerate any type of lubricant per the following instructions. Adding lube to the second design shafts will cause a clunk noise in a very short period of time. Use the following pictures to identify which design of shaft you are servicing.
