The driver and passenger seats make excessive creaking noise while driving. ACTION Apply white lithium grease to the recliner mechanisms and front cross tube linkages / lifter linkages where applicable. 2001-2005 Ford Escape UNSTABLE IDLE

ISSUE Some 2001-2005 Escape vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine may exhibit idle speeds outside the specified range. Some 2001-2003 Escape vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine and CD4E automatic transaxle may exhibit a transmission shudder. ACTION Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. If the concern is a 2001-2005 Escape with idle speeds outside the specified range: a. Install a new idle air control (IAC) valve with jumper harness included in the kit. The new Denso brand IAC will be installed with the electrical connector facing the opposite direction of the original (Hitachi) valve which is why the jumper harness is required. The original (Hitachi) IAC connector faces the front of the vehicle while the new Denso IAC connector faces toward the rear of the vehicle. b. Referring to the calibration charts (Figures 1 and 2), select the applicable file and reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) using the TSB Service Procedure and WDS/IDS release B40.5 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. 2. If the concern is a 2001 – 2003 Escape with transaxle shudder, drain, flush and refill the transmission fluid with MERCON® Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid. Then, referring to the calibration charts (Figures 1 and 2), select the applicable file and reprogram the PCM using the TSB Service Procedure and WDS/IDS release B40.5 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. 3. When reprogramming the PCM use blank path programming. Select the proper file from the chart and manually enter the PCM part number or tear tag number to obtain the updated calibration file. ISSUE Some 2003-2007 F-Super Duty vehicles, 2003-2005 Excursions and 2004-2010 E-Series vehicles, equipped with a 6.0L diesel engine may exhibit hard start, no start, white smoke, lack of power, running rough condition after cold engine start up, or diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0404, P0470, P0611, P1260 and/or P1378 issues. Refer to the Calibration Content for information detailing specific vehicle content by vehicle application and model year that is being addressed by this calibration update. This article includes previously released calibration content that improves injector performance in cold engine operation and additional diagnostic capabilities and product protection strategy enhancements. These enhancements provide additional diagnostic capabilities, adds additional new DTCs and engine protection strategies. Refer to the Calibration Content for additional details. See the appropriate Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnostic (PC/ED) manual for technical descriptions and diagnostic routines associated with new DTCs. ACTION Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) using IDS release 63.13 and higher or 64.01 and higher. The transmission control module (TCM) and fuel injector control module (FICM) , will automatically update if they are not at the latest calibration level. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2009.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.

2007-2008 Ford F-150 ENGINE RPM FLARE DURING 3-4 UPSHIFT UNDER LIGHT THROTTLE ONLY

ISSUE Some 2007-2008 F-150 and Mark LT vehicles built between 12/4/2006 to 5/20/2008 and equipped with a 5.4L 3V and 4R75E, may exhibit an engine RPM flare during light acceleration during the 3-4 upshift. This would only occur at road speed ranges from 25-30 MPH (40-48 Km/h). No DTCs or other drivability or transmission issues would be present. ACTION Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 54.5 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2008.3 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.

2005-2008 FORD F-250, F-350 SLOW FUEL FILL MIL ON WITH DTC P0191

ISSUE Some 2005-2008 F-Super Duty 250/350 vehicles equipped with a 5.4L 3V or 6.8L 3V engine may experience premature automatic shut off of the fuel fill nozzle, or repeated fuel shut off at the fuel station delivery nozzle with malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0191. Vehicles operated in muddy or dusty environments can encounter a dirt clogged carbon canister system. More specifically, the carbon canister’s vent, fresh air box, and filters become clogged with dirt from operating in such environments. SERVICE PROCEDURE Inspect the vehicle canister system and if it found to be dirt clogged then continue with this TSB. NOTE IF THE VEHICLE’S CANISTER SYSTEM IS NOT DIRT CLOGGED, THEN PROCEED WITH NORMAL DIAGNOSTICS AND DO NOT CONTINUE WITH THIS TSB. Vehicles with Pickup Boxes: 1. Replace the carbon canister assembly with a canister built after 10/1/2006. This canister has a revised internal filter media, and went into production on 10/1/2006. The date code is on a black sticker located on the carbon canister assembly. 2. Relocate the fresh-air intake port to a more protected location using the fresh air hose kit, for pickup applications only. 3. Replace fuel cap assembly if the vehicle was built before 5/16/2007. Vehicles with Pickup Box Removed or Chassis Cab: 1. Replace the carbon canister assembly with a canister built after 10/1/2006. This canister has a revised internal filter media, and went into production on 10/1/2006. The date code is on a black sticker located on the carbon canister assembly. 2. Relocate the fresh-air intake port to a more protected location using QVM bulletin Q-132 at the body builder’s website – https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/index.htm for fresh air intake routing recommendations. 3. Replace fuel cap assembly if the vehicle was built before 5/16/2007.
