Remove fan clutch with fan impeller and fan cowl, refer to Fan Clutch, Service and Repair. Drain and dispose of coolant. See: Coolant/Service and Repair Note: The water drain plug is located on the exhaust side on cylinder 2 in the engine block. Installation: Replace sealing ring of water drain plug. Tightening torque, refer to Specifications, Mechanical. Vent cooling system and check for leaks, refer to Cooling System, Service and Repair. See: Coolant/Service and Repair Pull locks and disconnect water hoses. Installation: Refer to general instructions for work on cooling system, refer to Cooling System, Service and Repair. Loosen nut (1). Release screws on thermostat housing, remove thermostat housing. Installation: Keep sealing faces clean and free of oil. 2000 BMW 323i (E46) L6-2494cc 2.5L DOHC (M52 TU) Note: Coolant thermostat is integrated in coolant thermostat housing and can only be replaced as a single unit. Installation: Replace gasket (1).
