Accelerator pedal cable -1- connected to accelerator pedal and routed over the Throttle actuator control module cable quadrant. Remove clip -3- from notched section of cable sleeve -4-. Fully depress accelerator pedal to Wide Open Throttle position. Note: Either use a second technician or a mechanical device to depress the accelerator pedal. Vehicles with manual transmission Move notched outer sleeve in or out of grommet -4- (as necessary) until Wide Open Throttle position is just reached. Re-install clip -3- into the first completely exposed notch closest to the top of the grommet. Vehicles with automatic transmission Move outer sleeve in or out of grommet -4- (as necessary) until Wide Open Throttle position is just reached and the kick-down switch clicks audibly. Re-install clip -3- into the first completely exposed notch closest to the top of the grommet. All vehicles Release accelerator pedal (remove mechanical device, if used). After adjusting, check the Closed and Wide open Throttle stops. Vehicles with automatic transmission, adjustment checking Test and auxiliary equipment required Fluke 83 Multimeter VW 1594 Adaptor kit Disconnect 2-pin harness connector from kick-down switch In engine compartment on firewall Connect multimeter between kick-down switch terminals using jumper wires from VW 1594 adaptor kit. Measure resistance across switch. Specified Value: ? Slowly depress accelerator pedal until Wide Open Throttle is reached. If properly adjusted, following conditions will be met: Shortly after kick-down point, resistance must drop to 0 Accelerator pedal must almost be up to the full travel stop

Customer Concern: Tests/Procedures: Potential Causes: Tech Tips: Just did a tune up and cleaned the throttle body and now the idle is hunting up and down. 1. Perform the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning procedure. 2. Perform the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning procedure. 3. Perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure described in the Identifix article listed for this vehicle. It may be necessary to follow TSB# NTB05-067 and disconnect one or more fuel injectors as necessary to bring the RPM down and then perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure. 4. If the idle will not relearn, it may be necessary to bring the vehicle to the dealer to have the factory scan tool, try going through the relearn procedures. 5. If the problem still occurs, the vehicle may require throttle body replacement. Idle Relearn Procedure Engine speed at 200 RPM or more over the target idle speed will set this code. There is a TSB (TSB# NTB05-067) concerning this code that refers to disconnecting one or more fuel injectors to bring the RPM down and perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure. It often takes disconnecting two injectors to bring the engine RPM low enough for the idle relearn to work. The idle will not relearn if the engine speed is too high. During the relearn procedure, idle relearning actually begins when the engine is started. The TSB refers to using the factory Consult scan tool, but the manual procedure does work if the procedure is followed EXACTLY. The engine and automatic transmission (if equipped) needs to be warmed up too – follow the preparation instructions.

DESCRIPTION The Throttle Position (TP) sensor is a potentiometer. The TP sensor is connected to the throttle shaft on the throttle body. By monitoring the voltage on the signal line, the VCM calculates throttle position. As the throttle valve angle is changed (accelerator pedal moved), the TP sensor signal also changes. At a closed throttle position, the output of the TP sensor is low. As the throttle valve opens, the output increases so that at Wide Open Throttle (WOT,) the output voltage should be above 4.0 volts. PURPOSE The VCM calculates fuel delivery based on throttle valve angle (driver demand). A broken or loose TP sensor may cause intermittent bursts of fuel from an injector. This may cause an unstable idle because the VCM detects the throttle is moving.

1. Disconnect the accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor electrical connector. 2. Remove the APP sensor retaining fasteners. 3. Remove the APP sensor (2) from the vehicle. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Install the APP sensor (2) to vehicle. 2. Install the APP sensor retaining fasteners (1). NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Tighten Tighten the retaining fasteners to 10 N.m (89 lb in) . 3. Connect the APP sensor electrical connector.
