1. Place the transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position. 2. Remove the engine air cleaner assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12. 3. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 4. Disconnect the electrical connectors. 1. Disconnect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector. 2. Disconnect the transaxle electrical connector. 3. Disconnect the wire harness from the bracket. 5. Remove the wiper arm and pivot assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 501-16.6. Remove the front upper radiator shield. 7. Install the special tool. 8. Install the special tool. 9. Install the special tools. 10. Install the special tool. 11. Remove the upper main control cover bolts. 12. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02. 13. Remove the LH wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04. 14. Remove the LH transaxle support and insulator. For additional information, refer to Transaxle Support Insulator in this section. 15. Position a drain pan under the transaxle side pan. 16. NOTE: It will be necessary to lower the left side of the subframe to remove the main control cover through the wheel well. Remove the remaining bolts, and remove the main control cover. 17. CAUTION: Do not pull on the wires or the electrical connectors. Damage to the connectors will result. Lift the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connectors. 18. Position the transaxle wiring harness out of the way. 19. CAUTION: Do not remove the two bolts that hold the pump assembly and main control valve body together as the pump assembly may fall from the main control valve body and become damaged. CAUTION: Only four of the six bolts need to be removed. Remove the bolts. Note the size and location of the bolts. 20. Disconnect the manual linkage. 21. Remove the main pump assembly and the main control valve body by carefully sliding it off the pump shaft. Installation 1. Install the pump assembly and main control valve body onto the pump shaft. 2. Rotate the pump assembly and main control valve body to connect the manual valve link with the manual valve. 3. CAUTION: Do not use the bolts to draw pump assembly and main control valve body onto the chain cover case. Component damage may occur. Using the Valve Body Aligner, install the pump assembly and main control valve body. Install the retaining bolt. 4. Install the transaxle wire harness and retaining clip into the separator plate. 5. Connect the electrical connectors.

Removal WARNING: Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with the eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts the eyes, flush the eyes for 15 minutes with cold running water. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. CAUTION: If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water. CAUTION: The brake fluid reservoir cap must not become contaminated. Using a suitable syringe, remove brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir until the brake fluid level is at the MIN mark. Install the brake fluid reservoir cap. 3. Remove the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12. 4. Detach the central junction box (CJB) from the mounting bracket. 1. Remove the retaining bolt. 2. Release the clip. 5. CAUTION: If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water. NOTE: Cap the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder fluid supply lines to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress. Using a suitable thin bladed screwdriver disconnect the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder fluid supply lines. Remove the clips. 6. Detach the instrument panel lower panel from the instrument panel. 1. Remove the screws. 2. Release the fastener. 7. Remove the instrument panel lower panel. Detach the data link connector (DLC). Disconnect the hood release cable.

1. NOTE: The location of engine mountings and engine support insulators are described looking from the transaxle to the engine. Remove the front wheels. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04. 2. Remove the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 3. Remove the hood. 4. Remove the bolts and the water pump pulley cover. 1. Detach the coolant hose from the clip. 2. Remove the bolts. 3. Remove the cover. 5. Remove the air cleaner (ACL). For additional information, refer to Section 303-12B. 6. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 7. Disconnect the accelerator and speed control cables. 1. Detach the cables from the bracket. 2. Disconnect the accelerator and speed control cables. 8. Remove the selector cable. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Disconnect the cable. 9. Disconnect the bulkhead electrical connectors. 1. Disconnect the electrical connector. 2. Remove the bolt and disconnect the electrical connector. 10. Detach the central junction box (CJB) and position it to one side. 11. Disconnect the cables. 1. Battery cables. 2. Electrical connector. 3. Ground cable. 12. Disconnect the fan motor electrical connectors. 13. Remove the battery bracket bolts and remove the two ground cables. 14. Remove the battery bracket. 15. Disconnect the fuel line. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00. 16. Disconnect the heater hoses. 17. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the radiator and from the coolant passage.

Disconnect the electrical connectors. 1. Disconnect the digital transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector. 2. Disconnect the transaxle electrical connector. 3. Disconnect the speed control electrical connector. 5. Remove the transmission selector cable from the bracket. 1. Disconnect the transmission selector cable end from the manual lever. 2. Push the lock tab and separate the transmission selector cable from the bracket. 3. Position the transmission selector cable out of the way. 6. Disconnect the wire harness from the bracket. 7. Remove the manual control lever. 8. Remove the hood. 9. Remove the wiper arm and pivot assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 501-00. 10. Remove the passenger compartment air intake box. 11. Remove the air intake tube. 12. Remove the front upper radiator shield. 13. Remove the hood latch and position aside.
