1. If equipped, turn the air suspension switch OFF. 2. Disconnect battery ground cable. 3. Raise and support the vehicle; refer to Section 100-02. 4. Drain transmission fluid and remove the transmission fluid pan and filter; refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill in this section. 5. CAUTION: Do not pull on the plastic lead frame. This may cause damage to the connector ends. Carefully pry up on the locking tabs to disconnect the sensors. Disconnect the molded lead frame from the sensors. Disconnect the molded lead frame from the sensors. 1. Disconnect the shift solenoid SSA/SS1 and SSB/SS2. 2. Disconnect the torque converter clutch (TCC). 3. Disconnect the electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid. 4. Disconnect the bulkhead inter connector. 6. Remove the shift solenoid and the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the shift solenoid and the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid. 7. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring (7A261) 1. Remove the bolt. 2. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring 8. Remove the 23 valve body to case bolts. 9. Remove the main control valve body (7A100) Installation 1. NOTE: Make sure that the drive pin of the manual valve detent lever assembly engages the manual valve in the proper location prior to installing the bolts. Position the main control valve body gasket and main control valve body using the two alignment bolts as a guide. 2. NOTE: The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps. Loosely install the bolts. 3. NOTE: The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps. Loosely install the bolts. 4. Install the manual control valve detent lever spring. 1. Position the manual control valve detent lever spring. 2. Install the bolt.

Customer Concern: Tests/Procedures: Potential Causes: Tech Tips: Code C0660 will reset. 1. Check the RTD fuse located in the underhood fuse block. 2. Check for Battery Voltage (B+) on the Orange wire at the automatic level control air compressor pin F. 3. If less than B+ at pin F, check for a wiring and connection problem between the air compressor and the underhood fuse block. 4. Disconnect the compressor leveling module connector and check the resistance from the positive battery voltage circuit of the exhaust solenoid valve and the control circuit of the exhaust solenoid valve. Should be 30-90 ohms. 5. Check for B+ on the Dark Blue wire pin B at the air compressor with the exhaust solenoid commanded off. 6. Check for B+ at the Electronic Suspension Control module connector C2 pin B5 Dark Blue wire with the exhaust solenoid commanded off. 7. If there is B+ at the air compressor but not at the electronic suspension control, check for a wiring and connection problem between the air compressor and the electronic suspension control module. ISSUE Some 2003-2006 Expedition and Navigator vehicles equipped with an air suspension may exhibit an air suspension height sensor linkage arm disengaging from the suspension ball stud or height sensor rotating arm. This concern typically occurs with the rear sensor (Figure 1) but may occur with the front sensors as well. If this occurs, the symptom will typically be the vehicle leaning to one side, the vehicle sitting too low/high, a harsh ride, and/or an inoperative air suspension. In addition, this concern may result in diagnostic trouble code (DTC) C1725 (air suspension front pneumatic failure) or C1726 (air suspension rear pneumatic failure). ACTION When a linkage arm becomes disengaged, do not re-attach the arm and do not replace the sensor unless broken. Instead, install a revised linkage arm on all three (3) sensor assemblies, even if they have not detached from the ball stud.Refer to the following Service Procedure. SERVICE PROCEDURE NOTE IF THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR ANY DAMAGE/FAILURE OTHER THAN THE ONE DESCRIBED IN THIS TSB, THE REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLY IS SUPPLIED WITH A NEW STYLE LINKAGE ARM, SO THERE IS NO NEED TO ORDER ADDITIONAL LINKAGES FOR THE SERVICE REPAIR. 1. Replace linkage arms on all three (3) sensor assemblies following Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-05. 2. Discard the old linkage arms.

Air suspension switch in trunk area must be turned o . On 1991-94 vehicles, locate the control module for the air suspension in the trunk area on either the back of rear seat or behind the trim panel on the right rear side of the trunk. On 1995-97 vehicles the control module is located under the right side of dash panel. There are 2 connectors for all model years, 1 black and 1 gray. On the 98-06 leave the solenoid connected. Disconnect the black connector and remove or cut the wire to pin #11 as shown. This will turn o the “AIR SUSP” message on the dashboard. The color code for this wire should be as follows: LINCOLN TOWN CAR: dark green/light green CROWN VICTORIA: green MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS: green Reconnect the black connector to the control module. This connector must be reconnected as the control module also controls functions of the “EVO” steering system. Turn Suspension Switch ON. NOTE: The parts in this kit are designed to replace the worn or nonfunctioning original equipment parts in the vehicle as produced by the car factory. These parts are not designed for installation on vehicles where the suspension aand/or steering systems have been modified for racing, competition, or any other reason than originally designed by manufacturer.

1. (w/ AIR SUSPENSION) MOVE HEIGHT CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TO “OFF” 2. JACK UP VEHICLE, REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 3. REMOVE FRONT BRAKE CYLINDER AND DISC ROTOR (a) Remove the two bolts and remove the brake cylinder from the steering knuckle. (b) Hang up the brake cylinder using wire, etc. (c) Place matchmarks on the disc rotor and axle hub. (d) Remove the two screws and remove the disc rotor. 4. REMOVE SPEED SENSOR FROM STEERING KNUCKLE 5. CHECK BACKLASH IN BEARING SHAFT DIRECTION Place the dial indicator near the center of the axle hub and check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction. Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) If greater than the specified maximum, replace the bearing. 6. CHECK AXLE HUB DEVIATION Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt. Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) If greater than the specified maximum, replace the axle hub.
