5.- There are at least 5 reasons the compressor clutch will shut-off and not register a DTC: – A/C system is manually turned off. – Ambient temperature too low. – Engine overheat signal from the 4 terminal multi-function temperature sensor. – Load signal from the engine control unit (shut-off for up to 12 seconds). – Kickdown signal from TCM (shut-off for up to 12 seconds). DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE 1. – Print DTC (additionally, read control head diagnostic display, channel 1, on cars with automatic climate control), then erase DTC. 2. – Check control head coding on cars with automatic climate control. Check compressor clutch control module coding level on cars with manual A/C.

1990 ELECTRICAL Alternators & Regulators 80, 90, 100, 200 Turbo SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Bosch alternators are conventional 3-phase, self-rectifying type alternators. Bosch 110-amp alternators use 14 diodes. See Fig. 1. All alternators use 3 exciter diodes connected to stator windings. These diodes turn off the alternator indicator light and supply power to the voltage regulator while the engine is running. Bosch regulators are transistorized and integal with alternator. WIRING CONTINUITY TEST 1) Connect a voltmeter between alternator Red battery terminal wire and ground. Voltmeter should indicate battery voltage. If not, check wiring between alternator and battery.

1990-92 STEERING Audi – Power Rack & Pinion 80, 90, 100, 200 1992 80, 100 DESCRIPTION & OPERATION Steering system consists of a belt-driven vane or rotary piston hydraulic pump, rotary piston pinion gear assembly and an oil reservoir. The flow control valve supplies fluid to the proper side of the rack piston when the steering wheel is turned. The pump mounts on the front of the engine. Two different rack designs are used. The 80 and 90 models utilize a rack assembly that extends the rack from one side of the housing. The steering links are attached to a bracket on end of rack. The 100 and 200 models use a rack assembly that is supported at both ends. The steering link bracket is attached to the center portion of the rack, through a window that exposes the rack. Rubber boots protect exposed portions of the rack from dust and contamination.
