1. On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, remove the shift lever. 2. On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, perform the following steps: 2.1. Apply the park brake. 2.2. Insert the ignition key and turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. 2.3. Depress the brake pedal and shift the transmission to the 1 position. 2.4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the left sound insulator. Remove the right instrument panel sound insulator. If the vehicle is equipped with a multiple CD changer located in the center console, remove the center console. Remove the center sound insulator. Remove the lower left instrument panel mounting bolt. Remove and retain the instrument panel storage compartment. Remove the lower right instrument panel mounting bolt. 11. Remove and retain the left and right speakers and the speaker grilles. 12. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the windshield defroster grille. Retain the grille and sunload sensor for use on the next IP carrier. 13. 14. 15. 16. If equipped with a sun load temperature sensor twist the sensor 1/4 turn counterclockwise in order to disengage. Disconnect the brown electrical connection from the body control module (BCM). Disconnect the purple electrical connection from the body control module (BCM). 1. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console. 2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling. 3. Remove the blower motor resistor. Refer to Blower Motor Resistor Assembly Replacement. Important :Mark and use the same mounting bolt for the heater/vent module during the installation process. Other mounting bolts are longer and will obstruct the operation of the temperature door. 4. Remove the heat/vent module mounting bolt through the blower motor resistor or service access cover opening. 5. Remove the right wheel house panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End. 6. Remove the front right tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels. 7. On the Utility only, remove the A/C evaporator and blower module heat shield screws. 8. On the Utility only, slide the A/C evaporator and blower module heat shield toward the front of the vehicle. 9. Remove the 2 lower heat/vent module mounting nuts. 10. On the Utility only, remove the A/C evaporator and blower module heat shield bracket. 11. Remove the bottom right heat/vent module mounting bolt from inside the vehicle. Important :The heat/vent mounting stud has a flange on the inside and cannot be removed from under the hood. Stop turning the stud after the threads are off the heat/vent module. 12. On the Utility only, while an assistant inside the vehicle pulls the bottom right corner of the heat/vent module approximately 2.5 mm (1 in) back, remove the 2 heat/vent module mounting studs. 13. Lower the vehicle.

1. Disconnect the underhood lamp electrical connector, if equipped. 2. Remove the hood. 3. Remove the PCM. 4. Remove the coolant recovery tank. 5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the grille mounted lamps, If equipped. 6. Remove the right front headlamp assembly. 7. Remove the front bumper. 8. Remove the right wheelhouse panel. 9. Disconnect the radio antenna cable. 10. Disconnect the electrical connector for the horn. 11. Remove the right fender. 12. Remove the blower motor resistor. 13. Remove the accumulator. 14. Remove the evaporator tube. 15. Remove the evaporator and blower module heat shield mounting screws. 16. Remove the evaporator and blower module heat shield. IMPORTANT: Retain the evaporator and blower module heat shield mounting bracket for installation. 17. Remove the evaporator and blower module mounting bolts and nuts. 18. Remove the evaporator and blower module from the vehicle.

Removal Procedure 1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting. 2. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement- Front. 3. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement-Rear. 4. Remove the vent hose from the transfer case. 5. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connectors. 6. Remove the electrical connectors from the transfer case motor/encoder. 7. Remove any wiring harness from the transfer case. 8. Support the transfer case with a transmission jack. 9. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the bolt securing the left side support brace to the transmission. 10. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the bolt and stud securing the left side support brace to the transfer case. 11. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the two bolts securing the right side support brace to the transmission and transfer case. 12. For vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, remove the six nuts securing the transfer case and bracket to the transmission.

Important : The upper intake does not have to be removed to remove the lower intake manifold. 1. Disconnect the breather tube at the air cleaner outlet duct. Fig. 65: Breather Tube 2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct retaining wingnut. Fig. 66: Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Retaining Wingnut 3. Disconnect the IAT sensor harness connector. 4. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the throttle body. 7. Disconnect the cruise control cable, if equipped from the throttle shaft and the accelerator cable bracket. 8.
