Special Tools Required KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014* *Available through the American Honda Tool and Equipment Program; call 888-424-6857 NOTE: Take care not to scratch the front seat, dashboard, and related parts. Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components. 1. M/T model: Remove the shift knob (A). -1 Lower the shift lever boot (B) to release the hooks (C) from the knob. 2. Detach the clips (A, B) by pulling the center console front panel (C) up. If equipped, disconnect the seat heater switch connectors (D). 3. Pry up on the right of the console pocket (A) with a trim tool, and detach the clips, then remove the pocket. 4. Remove the screws (A), detach the clips (B) and hook (C) by pulling the center holder (D) up, and disconnect the front accessory power socket connector (E). 5. Detach the clips (A, B) by pulling the center console rear panel (C) up. 6. Remove the center console (A). -1 Open the console box lid (B) then remove the console mat (C). -2 If equipped, disconnect the rear accessory power socket connector (D), and detach the clip (E). -3 Remove the screws (F, G), then pull the rear portion of the console up to release the hooks (H), then remove

Automatic Convertible Top Operation E36 Convertible Opening and closing of the convertible is done from one rocker switch in the center console. With the ignition key in position 1 (KLR), press and hold the switch until the processes is completed. No road speed can be present when operating the top. The indicator lamp (shown with the arrow) lights up continuously during top operation. The lamp will flash after releasing the switch if the opening or closing process is not yet completed. NOTE: The trunk cannot be opened during convertible top operation, or when the top is in the mid-way position. This is to prevent damage to the top storage box lid and trunk lid. Convenience closing from drivers door lock Models with a fully automatic top allow convenience closing from the drivers door lock. Hold the key in the lock position with the doors closed. The top will stop moving immediately if the key is released. Emergency closing procedures Should the convertible top fail electrically in the top down position it can be raised until the top can be repaired. To release the top motor drives and begin raising the top, raise the left side of the rear seat. Find a lever with an orange strap. Pull on the strap until resistance is felt and two audible clunks are heard. Open the storage compartment lid (note: The lid should open easily, if resistance is felt pull on the release lever again until it is fully disengaged). Grab the convertible top and lift it out of the storage well. Lift the rear bow to the vertical position and close the storage lid. To lock the convertible top to the windshield frame remove the plastic cover from the center of the front convertible top frame. Insert the allen key from the tool kit into the top latch motor drive. Turn the key counter-clock wise until the front convertible frame is locked to the windshield frame. NOTE: Do not operate the vehicle with the top down and the storage lid motor disengaged as the storage lid is not locked and could open during driving. Z3 Roadster

The center console is an injection molded armature trimmed in matching ambla with maple or burl walnut veneer top finisher. A lined stowage tray/pen holder is incorporated forward of the ‘J’ gate and an illuminated smoker’s compendium with press and release lid is fitted at the rear of the ‘J’ gate. The rear section of the console forms a deep stowage box with rear hinged lid which is padded to form a central arm rest. A hinged cup holder is incorporated in the front end of the stowage box lid. A color-keyed ‘J’ gate surround surmounts the veneer top finisher and the SPORT mode selector switch and cruise control switch are situated immediately to the rear of the ‘J’ gate. Two tongues at the front of the console locate in slots in the lower fascia, and the center and rear of the console are secured by screws to floor brackets.

Detach the clips (A, B), and release the hooks (C) by pulling the center console trim (D) from both sides. 2. Open the console box lid (A) then remove the console mat (B) and screws (C, D). 3. Slide the rear section of the center console (A) rearward to release the hooks (B). 4. Lift up the rear of the console (A). Release the harness retainer clip (B) from the air duct, and disconnect the console accessory power socket connector (C), the light bulb socket connector (D), and the AUX connector (E), then remove the rear section of the center console. 5. Install the console in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Check if the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones. Push the clips into place securely. Make sure the console accessory power socket connector and the AUX connector are plugged in properly, and the light bulb socket is connected securely.
