Some customers may comment on a check engine light being illuminated. This condition is intermittent and upon investigation, the technician may find DTC P0128 set. Correction Verify that the cooling system is filled to the proper level and using a scan tool, verify that the thermostat is opening at the proper temperature. If everything is functioning properly, then reprogram the PCM with a new calibration using the Service Programming System (SPS). An updated PCM calibration has been released to address this condition. This new service calibration is available on TIS2WEB. Important: The new calibration is included in a calibration that addresses long crank time in hot restart situations.

Customer Concern: Tests/Procedures: Potential Causes: Tech Tips: Diagnostic Codes: The check engine light is on with a trouble code P1140. 1. Check the right side (passenger side) Intake Valve Timing Control Position (IVTCP) sensor for 12 volts on the Black/White wire. 2. Check the IVTCP sensor for a good ground on the Black wire. 3. Scope the Yellow/Green signal wire and look for a square wave signal of around 8 volts. Check the pattern of the right side sensor and if unsure of the pattern, compare it to the left bank sensor. IVTCP Sensor Wiring — IVTCP sensor wiring/connection. This code is for the right (passenger) bank IVTCP Sensor or sensor circuit. The right and left bank sensors can be swapped from side to side to see if the code will follow the sensor. The sensor is on top of the timing cover. P1140

Verify battery voltage to the CKP sensor on the Red/Green wire. 2. Verify that ground is good for the CKP sensor on the Black wire. 3. Scope the CKP sensor output signal on the White wire – look for a 0 to battery voltage square wave signal. MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL) RESET PROCEDURE Federal Models MIL (also known as CHECK ENGINE light) will automatically flash at 50,000, 80,000 and 100,000 mile intervals, indicating system inspection and/or system component replacement is required. After necessary services have been performed, turn off light by moving cancel switch to opposite position. Cancel switch is located below steering column lower trim panel: * At 50,000 Miles – Replace PCV valve and inspect EGR system. * At 80,000 Miles – Replace oxygen sensor. * At 100,000 Miles – Replace PCV valve and charcoal canister.
