When releasing the clutch, the height of the pedal where the clutch starts to engage is higher than other vehi- cles making a smooth engagement difficult. Higher pedal pressure is required to depress the clutch pedal at the point of clutch engagement.2. Determine if vehicle is Type A or Type B: – If Type A vehicle (with Pre-Modified Clutch Pedal): Replace clutch pedal, clutch cover, and clutch disc assemblies with modified parts according to Workshop Manual (section 05-10 CLUTCH PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [A26MX-R]). – If Type B vehicle (with Modified Clutch Pedal): Replace clutch cover and clutch disc assemblies with modified parts according to Workshop Manual (section 05-10 CLUTCH UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [A26MX-R]). 3. Verify repair.

vehicles may experience difficulty starting (cranks no start). This may occur after driving the vehicle a short distance without engine reaching normal operating temperature. Examples: starting a vehicle and moving it to wash it, engine stall due to mis-application of clutch then restart. This commonly occurs at port facilities or dealer lots where vehicles are frequently started cold, moved for short distances and then turned off. This con- cern may also occur due to low cranking RPM during engine starting. A cranks, no start condition may be caused by fuel flooding resulting in either fouled spark plugs or lower than normal compression. Carefully follow REPAIR PROCEDURE “A” and refer to VIN application to determine nec- essary repair action. REPAIR PROCEDURE “A” 1. Inspect battery. Some vehicles will require battery replacement depending on VIN / production range, and / or visual iden- tification. 2005 and later Model Year vehicles DO NOT require battery replacement unless battery fails testing. Use the inspection procedure below to determine if battery replacement is necessary. a. Is the vehicle built after June 1, 2004 (starting with VIN JM1FE17******139714) – YES – Battery type is OK (Panasonic JIS 75D23L), go to STEP 2. – NO – Battery inspection is required, proceed to STEP 1b. b. Remove battery cover and inspect battery label. The following batteries are approved and DO NOT require replacement. If the vehicle’s battery type matches one of the following descriptions, proceed to STEP 2. • OEM Panasonic battery JIS specification “75D23L” • Mazda Genuine replacement battery part number 0000-80-6535-WB

2007-2009 Mustang Shelby GT500 vehicles may exhibit the following clutch/transmission symptoms: hard to disengage or engage 1st and reverse, hard to shift any gear, gear grinding during shifts any gear, vehicle creeps with trans in gear and clutch pedal fully depressed without brake pedal application, clutch slippage in gear with clutch pedal released, hiss noise with clutch pedal fully depressed (hiss on clutch pedal release is normal for GT500 clutch material). These symptoms may be due to flywheel distortion caused by excessive heat build-up during unique traffic conditions (example: severe stop/go urban driving). The distortion of the flywheel may prevent complete disengagement of the clutch. The system is designed for performance driving conditions. THE GT500 CLUTCH SHOULD BE DIAGNOSED/REMOVED/REPLACED AS A COMPLETE ASSEMBLY ONLY. DO NOT TAKE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY APART. 1. Remove, drain, disassemble and clean the transmission per Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 308-03C. 2. Remove and replace input shaft and all synchronizer assemblies per WSM, Section 308-03C. 308-03C. Remove clutch disc and plate assembly and pilot bearing per WSM, Section 308-01. Remove and replace flywheel per WSM, Section 303-01C. Discard old bolts and use bolts provided in flywheel kit. Install new pilot bearing per WSM, Section 308-01. Install new clutch disc and plate assembly per online WSM, Section 308-01 (vehicles with solid design flywheel). Discard old bolts and use bolts provided in clutch kit. Tighten bolts to 89 lb-in (10 N•m) in a star pattern. Tighten an additional 90 degrees in a star pattern. Apply a small amount of Motorcraft® PTFE Lubricant to the clutch hub splines per WSM, Section 308-01. Install the transmission per WSM, Section 308-03C.
