Remove the LH and RH spark plugs. 6. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise to position the crankshaft keyway in the 11 o’clock position and position the camshafts in the correct position. This will position the number one cylinder at Top Dead Center (TDC). ^ Verify that the camshafts are correctly located. If not, rotate the crankshaft one additional turn and re-check. 7. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise 120 degrees, to the 3 o’clock position to locate the RH camshafts in the neutral position. 8. Verify that the RH camshafts are in the neutral position. 9. Remove the RH timing chain and tensioner arm. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the tensioner. 3. Remove the tensioner arm. 10. Remove the bolts, RH timing chain guide and the timing chain. 11. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise 600 degrees (1-2/3 times) to position the crankshaft keyway in the 11 o’clock position. This will position the LH camshafts in the neutral position. 12. CAUTION: The following procedure can only be used if camshaft sprockets have NOT been loosened or removed. If camshaft sprockets have been removed, special tools and timing procedure are required. 1. Disconnect negative battery cable from jumper terminal. Remove upper radiator crossmember (may also be referred to as the engine compartment support). Remove electric cooling fan module with fans. 2. Remove accessory drive belts. Hold crankshaft damper stationary while removing center bolt. See Fig. 1 . Use gear puller to remove crankshaft damper. Remove the A/C belt guide/lift bracket. 3. Remove lower timing belt cover. Remove stamped steel (right side) timing belt cover. DO NOT remove the sealer on the stamped steel cover, as it is reusable. 4. Remove cast (left side) timing belt cover. If reusing old timing belt, mark belt direction of rotation for reinstallation. CAUTION: Align camshaft sprockets between marks on rear belt covers before removing timing belt, or damage to valves and pistons may occur. CAUTION: When aligning timing marks, always rotate engine by turning crankshaft. Failure to do so will result in valve and/or piston damage. 5. Rotate crankshaft to align crankshaft sprocket timing mark with TDC mark on oil pump housing. Align camshaft sprockets with marks on rear covers. See Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 . CAUTION: When timing belt tensioner is removed from engine, always store tensioner with plunger facing up. 6. Remove timing belt tensioner. See Fig. 1 . Store with plunger facing up. Remove timing belt.

DESCRIPTION In conditions of high humidity and high ambient temperatures, fogging may develop on the lower exterior por- tion of the front windshield. Fogging occurs when the A/C is on, and the dash, floor, or dash/floor vents airflow modes are selected. When these airflow modes are selected, small amounts of air may flow from the defroster vents. Fogging occurs when the temperature difference between the interior and exterior increases. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Set fan control dial to speed 3. 2. Set airflow mode selector to dash vents mode. 3. Place a sheet of 8 1/2” x 11” paper on center of dashboard over defroster vents. 4. Turn ignition switch ON and observe paper. – If paper starts to flutter, proceed to Step 5 and perform repair procedures in this service bulletin. – If paper does not flutter, do not perform repair procedures in this service bulletin, refer to Workshop Man- ual (Section 07) for further troubleshooting. 5. Record customer’s radio pre-set stations. 6. Move both front seats to most rearward position. 7. Fold both front seat backs backward (flat position). 8. Open glove compartment.Remove glove compartment being careful not to break hinges (shown below). 1167d 10. Remove damper clip string from right side of glove compartment. DAMPER CLIP STRING

Remove the engine support bracket in the numbered sequence shown in the illustration. Spraying lubricant, slowly remove the bolt (reamer bolt) indicated by the arrow. CAUTION: – Keep in mind that the reamer bolt is sometimes heat seized on the engine support bracket. 12. Removal of timing belt. (a) Align the timing marks. 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT V6-2972cc 3.0L DOHC (b) Make a mark on the back of the timing belt indicating the direction of rotation so it may be reassembled in the same direction it it is to be reused. (c) Loosen the center bolt on the tensioner pulley to remove the timing belt. CAUTION: – Water or oil on the belt shorten its life drastically, so the removed timing belt, sprocket, and tensioner must be free from oil and water. These parts should not be washed. Replace parts if seriously contaminated. If there is oil or water on each part check the front case oil seals, camshaft oil seal and water pump for leaks.
