All vehicles 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. Partially drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer toSection 303-03. 3. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir bracket. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Position the power steering fluid reservoir bracket out of the way. 4. Remove the accelerator control splash shield. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the accelerator control splash shield. 5. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose. CAUTION: After disconnecting, plug the fuel lines to prevent leakage. 6. Disconnect the fuel lines. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00. 7. Disconnect the eight fuel injector electrical connectors. 8. Disconnect the eight ignition coil electrical connectors. 9. Remove the brake booster bracket and tube. 1. Remove the nut. 2. Release and move the two hose clamps. 3. Remove the brake booster tube. 10. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose. For vehicles equipped with 4.6L engine 11. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) connector, then disconnect the upper and lower EGR valve tube fitting.

Installation All engines 1. NOTE: Lubricate the new O-ring seals with clean engine oil to aid installation. Install new O-ring seals, as required. 2. Install the fuel injectors into the fuel injection supply manifold. 3. Position the fuel injection supply manifold and install the four bolts. 4. Connect the evaporative emission canister purge valve hose and the EGR valve vacuum hose. 4.6L engines 5. Install the exhaust manifold to EGR valve tube. 6. Connect the differential pressure feedback EGR system electrical connector. 5.4L engines 7. Install the exhaust manifold to EGR valve tube and connect the differential pressure feedback EGR system hoses. All engines 8. NOTE: 4.6L shown, 5.4L similar. Install the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose. 9. Install the crankcase ventilation tube. 4.6L engines 10. Connect the brake booster vacuum tube and bracket and install the nut. 5.4L engines 11. Install the brake booster vacuum tube and bracket. 12. Connect the water heater inlet tube hose. 1. Connect the water heater inlet tube hose. 2. Compress and install the hose clamp. All engines 13. Connect the eight fuel injector electrical connectors. 14. Connect the eight ignition coil electrical connectors. 15. Connect the fuel tubes. For additional information, refer toSection 310-00A. 16. Connect the fuel pressure regulator valve vacuum hose.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12. 3. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 4. Compress the hose clamp and disconnect the upper radiator hose. 5. Remove the three bolts and the appearance cover mounting bracket. 6. Disconnect the throttle body cam. 1. Disconnect the accelerator cable. 2. Disconnect the speed control actuator cable. 3. Remove the accelerator return spring. 7. Remove the accelerator cable bracket bolts and position the bracket and cables aside. 8. Disconnect the main vacuum harness. 9. Disconnect the fuel pulse damper vacuum hose. 10. Disconnect the climate control vacuum hose. 11. Remove the idle air control (IAC) fresh air hose and disconnect the differential pressure feedback exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) sensor electrical connector. 12. Disconnect the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid connections. 13. Disconnect the IAC and throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connectors. 14. Disconnect the EGR valve vacuum hose and the evaporative emission canister purge valve hose and position them aside. 15. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge valve vacuum hose and remove the vacuum harness.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12. 3. CAUTION: The coolant drain procedure must be followed exactly or damage to the engine may occur. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 4. Remove the cowl vent screen. For additional information, refer to Section 501-02. 5. Remove the engine compartment brace. 6. Disconnect the accelerator and speed control cables. 7. Disconnect the vacuum hoses. 8. Disconnect the vacuum line. 9. Disconnect the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube. 10. Remove the EGR valve. 1. Remove the two bolts. 2. Remove the valve and discard the gasket. 11. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector and separate the connector from the fuel injection supply manifold. 12. CAUTION: To remove normal fittings, squeeze the tabs and pull straight out or damage to the fitting may occur. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge valve line. 13. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector. 14. Disconnect the vacuum connector from the fuel pressure sensor.

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. Relieve the fuel pressure. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00A (Gasoline) or Section 310-00B (Natural Gas). 3. Disconnect the fuel lines. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00A (Gasoline) or Section 310-00B (Natural Gas). 4. Remove the throttle body (9E926). For additional information, refer to Throttle Body in this section. 5. On gasoline engines, remove the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube (9D477). For additional information, refer to Section 303-08. 6. Remove the drive belt (8620). For additional information, refer to Section 303-05. Vehicles equipped with natural gas engines 7. Disconnect the fuel temperature sensor connector. 8. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor connector. All vehicles 9. Disconnect the main fuel shut-off solenoid connector. 10. Disconnect the generator cable, electrical connector, and harness pin-type retainer. 11. Remove the bolts and the generator mounting bracket (10153). 12. Remove the bolts. 13. Unclip the accelerator cable (9A758) and the speed control actuator cable (9A825) from the two crash brackets and position out of the way. 14. Separate the LH heated oxygen sensor and the transmission electrical connector from the bracket at the rear of the cylinder head. 15. Separate the fuel charging wiring pin-type retainer from the crash bracket. 16. Remove the wiring bracket. Disconnect the wiring connectors. Separate the transmission harness from the stud. Remove the nut and the bolt and remove the bracket.
