REMOVAL WARNING: REFER TO THE APPLICABLE WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS FOR THIS SYSTEM BEFORE PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING OPERATION. 1. Remove the HVAC unit housing from the vehicle. See: Housing Assembly HVAC\Service and Repair 2. Remove the heater core tubes from the heater core. 3. Remove and discard the foam seal from the HVAC housing seal flange around the fresh air inlet opening and the expansion valve/evaporator tube opening on the dash panel side of the unit. 4. Remove the expansion valve from the evaporator inlet and outlet tube fittings. 5. Disconnect the HVAC wire harness connector for the blower motor from the motor connector receptacle on the bottom of the outboard end of the evaporator housing. 6. Disengage the HVAC wire harness from the routing clips molded into the outside of the HVAC housing components.Remove the three screws from the dash panel side of the unit that secure the top of the distribution housing to the inboard end of the evaporator housing. 8. Pull the top of the distribution housing away from the evaporator housing far enough to disengage the two hook formations on the bottom of the distribution housing from the two receptacles on the evaporator housing. 9. Remove the two screws that secure the upper intake air housing to the lower intake air housing. 10. Remove the three screws that secure the upper intake air housing to the top of the outboard end of the evaporator housing. Be certain not to miss the screw located just inside the inboard side of the fresh air intake opening.

The heater-A/C housing assembly must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled for service access of the blower motor, blower motor wheel, heater core, evaporator coil, blend-air door, and each of the various mode control doors. WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR-BAGS, FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIR-BAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY. REMOVAL 1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. 2. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement, See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Dashboard / Instrument Panel/Service and Repair/Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement 3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to: Heating and Air Conditioning, Service and Repair, Refrigerant Recovery, See: Service and Repair/Refrigerant Recovery 4. Remove the front expansion valve from the evaporator tube mounting flange. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings. Refer to: Heating and Air Conditioning, Expansion valve, Service and Repair, Expansion Valve Removal and Installation, See: Expansion Valve/Service and Repair 5. Drain the engine cooling system. 6. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.

1. Recover the refrigerant with a Recovery/Recycling/Charging System. 2. Remove the dashboard lower cover, the knee bolster and the glove box. 3. Remove the ECM. 4. Remove the ABS control unit and the radiator fan control module together with the bracket, then remove the TCM. Remove the security control unit. 5. Disconnect the connectors from the power transistor, blower motor high relay, evaporator temperature sensor, blower motor and the heater sub- harness, then remove the blower motor and heater subharness connectors from the brackets. Disconnect the passenger’s airbag harness clip. 6. Remove the wire harness clips, the three self-tap- ping screws and the pipe cover. 7. Remove the expansion valve covers, then disconnect the suction line and unbolt the expansion valve from the evaporator. NOTE: Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination. 8. Disconnect the drain hose, and remove the seven self-tapping screws. Then pull the evaporator out of the front passengers side to remove it. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the evaporator fins when removing the evaporator. 9. Install in the reverse order of removal. Make note of the following items. If you’re installing a new evaporator, add refrigerant oil (ND-OIL 8). Replace the O-rings with new ones at each fitting, and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil (ND-OIL 8) before installing them. NOTE: Be sure to use the right O-rings for HFC134a (R-134a) to avoid leakage. Be careful not to damage the evaporator fins when installing the evaporator. Install the expansion valve capillary tube with the capillary tube in contact with the suction line directly, and wrap it with tape.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to “Refrigerant : Service and Repair” See: Refrigerant\Service and Repair 2. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to “Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Cooling System : Service and Repair” See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Cooling System\Service and Repair 3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. 4. Disconnect the liquid line and suction line from the expansion valve. Refer to “Heater Hose : Service and Repair” See: Heater Hose\Service and Repair 5. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes 6. Remove the four nuts that secure the heater-A/C unit housing studs to the engine compartment side of the dash panel. 7. Remove the instrument panel from the passenger compartment. HVAC HOUSING REMOVAL The instrument panel must be removed in order to remove the heater-A/C Housing. Refer to: “Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators : Instrument Panel : Service and Repair” See: Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators\Instrument Cluster / Carrier\Service and Repair WARNING: THE R-134a REFRIGERANT SYSTEM MUST BE RECOVERED BEFORE SERVICING ANY PART OF THE REFRIGERANT SYSTEM. 1. Using a refrigerant recovery machine, remove the refrigerant from the A/C system, if equipped. Refer to: “Heating and Air Conditioning : Service and Repair” See: Service and Repair 2. Remove instrument panel from vehicle. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel Service Procedures, Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement, See: Body and Frame\Interior Moulding / Trim\Dashboard / Instrument Panel\Service and Repair\Instrument Panel Service Procedures\Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement 3. Drain cooling system. Refer to: “Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Cooling System : Service and Repair” See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Cooling System\Service and Repair 4. Remove heater hoses at the dash panel. Place plugs in the heater core outlets to prevent coolant spillage during unit housing removal. 5. Unfasten coolant recovery container and set aside. 6. Remove suction line at expansion valve. Cap open refrigerant lines to prevent moisture and/or dirt from entering. 7. Remove expansion valve from evaporator, and cap fittings. 8. Remove rubber drain tube extension from condensation drain tube.
