ISSUE Some 2003 F250-550 Super Duty and Excursion vehicles equipped with a 6.0L Powerstroke engine, may exhibit a difficult to remove or replace air filter assembly during service. ACTION The following procedure has been provided to assist with air filter removal or installation during service. SERVICE PROCEDURE Filter Removal 1. Release 4 toggle clamps located on top of assembly (Figure 1). 2. Lift inlet slightly, enough to disengage the 2 tabs on the bottom of the inlet cover from the 2 windows on bottom of the filter inlet, and push it forward toward front of vehicle as shown in Figures 2 and 3. 4. Pull outlet cover up enough to disengage the 2 tabs on the outlet cover and the filters 2 windows located at the bottom of the clean side. At this step, the MAFS may contact the degas bottle while pulling the cover up but this should not create a problem. Push cover slightly away from filter and down as in Figure 5. 5. Pull filter upward to disengage its 2 legs from grommets (Figure 6). It is easiest to rock the filter forward/aft while pulling it up. Filter Installation 1. Use the guide on the filter to align its legs to the grommet during its installation as shown in Figure 7, making sure filter is fully seated on the cradle. 2. Attach inlet cover to filter using the 2 clamps on inlet side, making sure that tabs are seated inside the windows (Figure 8).

2004 – 2006 MAZDA3 DESCRIPTION There have been a variety of electrical problems reported where the root cause may be a poorly secured connector, unsecured wire, or bent terminal or pin to the PJB. Many of these problems have occurred after the PJB was removed and reinstalled, as is done for the HVAC diffuser plate or in-cabin filter installation. Examples of these problems include the following: While performing diagnostics, there is no communication with the PJB Door Ajar Light remains on with all of the doors closed Dome light remains on with doors closed or it is inoperative Fog Lights are inoperative A/C not cooling and compressor is inoperative Power door locks are inoperative Turn signals or hazards are inoperative Brake or ABS light remains on with no system problems found Dimmer switch is inoperative Keyless entry is inoperative (with ignition key reminder NOT on with key removed from the ignition). If a vehicle is presenting electrical problems and during diagnosis there are symptoms present that lead you to suspect a poor connection between a wiring harness connector and the PJB, inspect each harness connector and mating terminal on the PJB to determine if they have a proper connection by performing the inspection procedure below. INSPECTION PROCEDURE 1. Record all DTC(s) if any are present. 2. Record all preset radio stations.NOTE: Perform steps 4 and 5 for each of the connectors to the PJB (J-01 – J-06), one at a time, before moving onto step 6.

TOOLS REQUIRED J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge REMOVAL PROCEDURE NOTE: Before attempting any On-Vehicle Service, place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near work area. 1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure. 2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle. 3. Remove the in-line fuel filter bracket. 4. Grasp the in-fuel filter and one fuel pipe fitting. 5. Twist quick-connect fitting 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within fitting. 6. Repeat for other fuel pipe fitting. CAUTION: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air in order to prevent eye injury. 1999 Cadillac DeVille V8-4.6L VIN Y 7. Blow out dirt-from quick-connect fittings at both ends of in-line fuel filter, using compressed air. 8. Squeeze plastic tabs of male end connector. 9. Pull connection apart. 10. Repeat for the other fitting. 11. Remove the in-line filter. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, before installing a new filter, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both pipe ends of the filter. This will ensure proper re-connection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper re-connection it not lubricated).

WARNING: The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel system component. Fuel Filter And Shield REMOVAL 1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, and remove the fuel tank cap. 2. Raise, and support the vehicle for access. 3. Remove the fuel filter shield. Remove fuel filter hoses and clamps from the inlet and outlet fuel lines. Remove the retaining strap bolt, and remove the filter. INSTALLATION 1. Install the new filter in the retaining strap. Check the direction of flow by the markings on the filter, and ensure it is correct. 2. Install the retaining strap bolt, and torque to 12 Nm (8.8 lb-ft) 3. Install the inlet and outlet hoses, and clamps. Tighten the clamps securely. Reinstall the filter shield, and lower the vehicle. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.Using the DRB II select the Automatic Shut Down (ASD) Fuel System Test to pressurize fuel system and check for leaks. Refer to Powertrain Management / Computers and Control Systems / Testing and Inspection / Procedures See: Powertrain Management\Computers and Control Systems\Testing and Inspection CAUTION: Unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position the fuel pump relay and the ASD relay will remain energized for 7 minutes by the ASD Fuel System Test.
