NOTE: The LH fender is shown, the RH fender is similar. 1. NOTE: The pin-type retainers are a one-time use item, and new pin-type retainers must be installed after removal. If equipped with an engine compartment lamp, remove the pin-type retainers and position the hood insulation aside. 2. If equipped, release the wiring harness locators and disconnect the engine compartment lamp electrical connector. 3. NOTE: Two technicians needed to carry out this step. NOTE: Support the hood with a suitable hood support. Remove the hood. Mark the hinge locations and remove the hood hinge bolts. 4. Remove the front bumper cover. For additional information, refer to Section 501-19. 5. Remove the fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to Fender Splash Shield—LH or Fender Splash Shield—RH in this section. 6. Release the wiring harness and the hood latch release cable locators. 7. Remove the ground wire bolt. 8. Remove the pin-type retainer and position the rocker panel moulding aside. 9. Remove the fender rear bolts. 10. Remove the fender rear bolts. 11. Remove the fender upper bolts. 12. Remove the fender bolts. 13. Remove the fender brace bolt. 14. Remove the fender to radiator support bolts. 15. Remove the radiator grille opening panel bolt. 16. Remove the fender bolts. 17. Remove the radiator grille opening panel bolt. 18. NOTE: On the RH fender, an assistant is needed to support the fender when removing this bolt. Remove the fender rear bolt and the fender. Installation 1. Position the fender. 2. Install the fender rear bolts.

1. CAUTION: Do not remove the steering column, steering wheel (3600) and driver side air bag module (043B13) as an assembly from the vehicle unless the steering column is locked to prevent rotation, or lower end of steering shaft is wired in such a way to prevent the steering wheel from being rotated. NOTE: All steering column components are assembled with fasteners. They are designed with a thread-locking system to prevent loosening due to vibrations associated with normal vehicle operation. Make sure the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01. Disconnect air bag backup power supply. Refer to Section 01-20B. 2. Remove steering wheel as described. 3. Remove RH and LH lower mouldings from instrument panel (04320) by pulling up and snapping out of retainers. 4. Remove instrument panel steering column cover (04459). 5. Remove air bag sliding contact (14A664) as described. 6. Remove tilt wheel handle and shank (3F609) by unscrewing it from steering column. 7. Rotate ignition switch lock cylinder (11582) to RUN position. Using a 1/8-inch drift, depress ignition switch retaining pin through access hole and remove ignition switch lock cylinder. 8. Remove four retaining screws from lower steering column shroud (3530) . Remove lower steering column shroud and upper steering column shroud. 9. Remove two instrument panel reinforcement brace bolts. Remove reinforcement. 10. Remove steering column to parking brake control shake brace. 11. Disconnect shift cable and bracket (7E395) from steering actuator housing (3F723) by removing one screw. 12. Remove two multi-function switch retaining screws and set multi-function switch (13K359) aside.

DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS Use the recorded results from the LCM self-test. Are any DTCs retrieved? Yes If DTC B1470 is retrieved, GO to GO to C8 . If DTC B1342 is retrieved, CLEAR DTC and CARRY OUT LCM On-Demand Self-Test. INSTALL a new LCM if DTC B1342 is retrieved again. REFER to Section 419-10. TEST the system for normal operation. If other DTC(s) is (are) retrieved, RETURN to the LCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. No If only the autolamps are inoperative, GO to Pinpoint Test I. Otherwise, GO to C2 . Trigger the LCM active command HEAD/CORNERING LAMP CONTROL LOW BEAM. Do the headlamps turn ON? Yes GO to C3. No GO to C5. Monitor the LCM PID HDLMPSW while turning the headlamp switch to the headlamps ON position. Does the PID display ON? Yes INSTALL a new LCM; REFER to Section 419-10. TEST the system for normal operation. No GO to C4. Check the headlamp switch; refer to the Wiring Diagrams Cell 149. Is the headlamp switch OK? Yes REPAIR circuit 1033 (RD/YE) for open. TEST the system for normal operation. No INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to Lamp Switch—Headlamp in this section. TEST the system for normal operation. C5 CHECK CIRCUIT 221 (OG/WH) FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE

1997 Ford Crown Victoria Door Trim Panels REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Front Removal 1. Remove window regulator control switch housing by gently prying up, starting at the front. 2. Disconnect all connectors from window regulator control switch housing. 3. Remove inside door handle cup (22634) by gently prying at screwdriver slot with a screwdriver. 4. Remove screw directly beneath inside door handle. 5. Remove lower screw retaining front door trim panel (23942) to door inner panel. 6. On Grand Marquis only, pry up screw covers from door pull handle and remove screws and handle. 7. Lift front door trim panel upward and snap out trim panel. 8. Disconnect wire harnesses from door panel as required and remove front door trim panel. Installation 1. Connect wire harnesses to front door trim panel as required. 2. Install front door trim panel by pushing in and down until it snaps into place. 3. Install all self-tapping screws retaining front door trim panel to door inner panel. 4. On Grand Marquis only, install door pull handle, tighten screws and install screw covers. 5. Install inside door handle cup. 6. Install window regulator control switch housing. Trim Panels, Front Doors

All vehicles CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules. 1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to Section 501-20B. Vehicles with Police option 2. Position the glove compartment battery junction box (BJB) wiring harness aside. 1. Disconnect the electrical connector. 2. Remove the wire tie(s). All vehicles 3. If equipped, remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Floor Console in this section. 4. Position the speed control actuator aside. 1. Remove the nuts. 2. Disconnect the electrical connecor. 5. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the LH bulkhead electrical connector. 6. Release the retainers and position the bulkhead electrical connector through the dash panel. 7. Disconnect the A/C temperature sensor electrical connector.
