2.8 Liter VR6 2V Fuel Injection & Ignition, Engine Code(s): AFP 24 – Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) Servicing ignition system => Page 28-1 Note: The Engine Control Module (ECM) has On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capability. Before carrying out troubleshooting and repairs, DTC memory must be checked. Vacuum hoses and connections must also be checked (unmetered air). Fuel lines in the engine compartment must only be secured using spring type clips. The use of clamp or screw type clips is not permissible. Components marked with a * are checked via the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) => Page 01-32. Components marked with a **can be checked with output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) => Page 01-68. For trouble-free operation of the electrical components, a voltage of at least 11.5 V is necessary. Do not use sealants containing silicone. Particles of silicone drawn into the engine will not be burned in the engine and will damage the oxygen sensor. When performing some repairs, it is possible that the control module will recognize a malfunction and store a DTC. After completing all checks and repairs DTC memory must be checked and, if necessary, erased ( => Page 01-32), and the readiness code must be generated ( => Page 01-95). WARNING: The evaporative emissions system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. Although not present in large quantities, it still presents the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery to minimize the possibility of an electrical spark occurring, possibly causing a fire or explosion if fuel vapor or liquid fuel are present in the area. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury. WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. 1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-00. 2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-00. 3. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustrations and tables. To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps: Items 2, 5 and 13: Quick Connect Fitting Removal Note 1. CAUTION: Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. It is therefore essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components. Always install blanking plugs to any open orifices or tubes. CAUTION: When reusing liquid or vapor tube connectors, make sure to use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the connector retaining clip area before separating from the tube. Disconnect the quick release fitting.

Removal WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury. All engines 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). For additional information, refer toSection 414-01. 2. Relieve the fuel pressure. For additional information, refer toSection 310-00A. 3. Partially drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer toSection 303-03A or Section 303-03B. 4. Remove the power steering reservoir bracket. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Position the power steering reservoir bracket out of the way. 5. Remove the accelerator control splash shield. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the accelerator control splash shield. 6.
