1. Unscrew the shift knob by rotating it counter-clockwise and put it in a safe place. Remove the small plastic adapter at the base of the shift knob (pictured lower left) as well. Keep this piece for re-installation later. 2. Remove the ashtray in front of the shifter. 3. Remove the small storage compartment in front of the handbrake by pulling up on it as pictured to the left. 4. Begin removal of the center console by lifting the rear portion that surrounds the handbrake. Be sure the storage compartment lid is open to allow the back half of the rear portion to move freely. 5. The front portion of the rear half of the console can now be lifted and separated from the rest of the console. It is held in place by clips from underneath so it will pop free by lifting upward. 6. Turn this portion of the console on it’s side to gain access to the wires beneath it. Disconnect the plastic connector for the heated seats switches. 7. Use a Philips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws directly behind the shifter. 8. The front portion of the console with the shift boot attached can now be lifted, however it cannot be removed from the car yet as there is a clip holding a wire at the front which must be removed as shown in the next step. 9. Use needle nose pliers to compress the tabs on the clip at the front part of this section. With the tabs depressed, the clip can be pushed through and out from the under side. 10. Turn this portion of the console over and disconnect the plastic plug for the lighter by pulling on the plastic portion. Do not pull on the wires. There are no tabs to depress on this clip, the connector simply slides off. The front portion of the console can now be removed from the car and put in a safe place. 11. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws in front of the shifter that have been exposed by removing the front portion of the console in the previous step.

temperature variation between the left and right hand ducts. Typical concerns may include that the right side of the vehicle cools down but the left stays warm or the opposite. This condition is sometimes associated by the customer with a recent service visit for other non-related repairs. The codes, DTC B0361 or B0441, may be present but will not illuminate a telltale lamp. The HVAC controller unit and the TEMP door actuator motors rely on a feedback system that supplies the controller with count values in order to accurately adjust the air temperature. When battery power is interrupted to the HVAC controller, the current actuator position values are lost. When power is restored, the controller will perform a “sweep test” of the doors from full cold to full hot and record the end values for reference. Over time, the TEMP doors may develop some flexing when run to their extremes. This flexing allows the count values to run out of range (beyond 0-255) and results in DTC code B0361 or B0441 to set. A revised HVAC controller has been released with new programming that allows for a wider tolerance in the expected range of the TEMP door. Replace the controller using the procedure below: Important: On the 1997 Buick Century and Regal, additional steps are required. You will have to run a jumper wire to the new HVAC controller. Be sure to follow the additional 1997 model year steps below. 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Important: On the Buick Regal, the console must first be removed to access the HVAC controller. For Buick Century and Oldsmobile Intrigue, skip to Step 10. Apply the parking brake and block wheels. Shift the transmission to first gear. Remove the console trim plate and disconnect the electrical harness. Disconnect the cigarette lighter sockets. Remove the console storage box. Remove the console control plate and disconnect electrical harness for traction control and heated seats, if equipped. 8. Remove the console retaining bolts. 9. Remove the console from the vehicle. 10.Remove the HVAC trim panel, if equipped. 11.Remove the HVAC controller retaining bolts. 12.Disconnect the electrical harness. 13.Discard the HVAC controller.

1. Make sure all accessories are turned OFF. 2. Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position. 3. At the central junction box (CJB), located below the LH side of the instrument panel, remove the cover and the restraints control module (RCM) fuse F2.60 (7.5A) from the CJB. 4. Turn the ignition ON and visually monitor the air bag indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag indicator will remain lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse has been removed. If the air bag indicator does not remain lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding. 5. Turn the ignition OFF. 6. Disconnect the battery negative cable and wait at least one (1) minute. 7. Move the seat to its full rearward position. 8. Remove the seat track outer trim cover. 9. Remove the seat assembly front retaining bolts. 10. Move the seat to its full forward position. 11. Remove the seat track outer rear trim cover. 12. Remove the seat assembly rear retaining bolts. 13. Disconnect the underseat electrical connector. See Figure 1. 14. Remove the seat from the vehicle and position it on a suitable work surface. SEAT CUSHION AND SEAT BACK DISASSEMBLY 1. CAUTION: Note the position and routing of the wiring harnesses to aid installation. An incorrectly routed wiring harness may lead to the wires becoming damaged on the seat mechanism. safety belt buckle sensor and pretensioner wiring harnesses, if equipped, from the underside of the cushion.
