To test the dropping resistor, check for continuity across the terminals as described in the illustration. If no continuity exists, replace the unit. 2. To test the thermo switch, first remove the switch. Submerge the end of the switch in water and raise the temperature gradually. The switch should be off at 126-140°F (53-60°C) or lower. The switch should be on at 134-145°F (57-63°C) or higher. If not, replace the switch. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION See Figure 5 Fig. Fig. 5: Location of the glow plugs The glow plugs are located under the injection nozzles, and are threaded into the cylinder head. 1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. 2. Disconnect the glow plug and unscrew it from the engine. To install: 3. Lubricate with anti-seize compound before installing the plug. 4. Install and tighten the plug to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm). 5. Reconnect the plug wiring. 6. Connect the battery cable and check operation.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the engine cover. 3. Remove the common chamber assembly. Refer to Common Chamber in Engine Mechanical. 4. Disconnect the electrical connector to the CMP sensor. 5. Remove the CMP retaining bolt from the side of left cylinder head. 6. Remove the CMP sensor from the cylinder head.

There is no need to change the transmission fluid unless the transmission is used under one or more of the following heavy duty conditions. A. B. C. D. Repeated short trips Driving on rough roads Driving on dusty roads Towing a trailer If the vehicle is used under these conditions, change the fluid every 20,000 miles (32,000 km). 1. 2. 3. 4. Place a large drain pan under the oil pan. Remove the transmission oil drain screw (2) and drain fluid. Tighten drain screw (2). Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) Remove the transmission overfill screw (1) and fill transmission through overfill screw opening, using DEXRON-III ATF. Note: Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening. 5. Let engine idle until a fluid temperature between 32° (90° and 57° C F) C (135° is reached. F) 6. Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening, then close the overfill screw (1). Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) Note: To prevent fluid leaks, the overfill screw and oil drain screws gasket must be replaced each time these screws are removed. Note: Check transmission fluid temperature with scan tool.

high/erratic idle and/or the MIL light on. In some cases, vacuum leak noise may be heard as well. There may be poor contact or loss of contact at various main ground points or electrical connections. Power steering pressure switch may be shorted with debris. Inlet manifold gasket may be leaking. Broadcast code and calibration part number may need to be updated. To correct this condition, follow the procedures outlined in this bulletin to determine proper diagnosing, inspection and correction of ground contact points for proper electrical contact, power steering pressure switch cleaning or replacement and power steering system flush, replacement of inlet manifold gasket, and/or PCM reprogramming. SERVICE PROCEDURE Please refer to the appropriate workshop manual for the correct diagnosing procedure and/or follow the service procedures outlined in this bulletin for the vehicle being serviced. 1. Inspect main ground points (refer to SB99-04-S001 for more information). P6 ground point-body [on the passenger side of engine compartment, between the battery and cruise control actuator (if equipped)].
