SYMPTOM/CONDITION: This bulletin will address water leaks due to the FRONT HEADER SEAL at the roof. Water leaks associated with the header seal can cause the front floor and/or instrument panel to get wet. Water leaking into the vehicle at the B-Pillar or anywhere further back in the vehicle are not covered in this Service Bulletin. Water leaks in these areas are addressed in other Service Bulletins and eFiles. Refer to those Service Bulletins and eFiles as necessary. Transmission Delayed Engagement OVERVIEW This bulletin involves replacing the front pump assembly in the transmission and checking the Transmission Control Module (TCM) for the latest software revision level. The condition follows an extended soak (several hours) and may be accompanied by a harsh 4-3 downshift. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1791/P0944 – Loss of Prime. DIAGNOSIS Using a Scan Tool (DRBIII(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are present, other than those listed above, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the vehicle operator describes the Symptom/Condition or the technician finds DTC P1791 or P0944, perform the Repair Procedure.

CONDITION POSSIBLE CAUSE CORRECTION Very High Frequency Excessive distance between Shim starter motor toward Flywheel/Drive Whine Before Engine pinion gear and Flywheel/Drive Plate. Starts; Engine Starts OK. Plate gear. Very High Frequency Insufficient distance between Shim starter motor away from Whine After Engine Starts starter motor pinion gear and Flywheel/Drive Plate. Inspect With Ignition Key Flywheel/ Drive Plate runout Flywheel/Drive Plate for damage; bent, Released. Engine Starts can cause noise to be unusual wear, and excessive runout. OK. intermittent. Replace Flywheel/Drive Plate as necessary. A Loud “Whoop” After Probable cause is defective Replace starter motor. Engine Starts While Starter overrunning clutch. Motor is Engaged “Rumble”, “Growl”, or Probable cause is bent or Replace starter motor. “Knock” as Starter Motor unbalanced starter motor Coasts to Stop After armature. Engine Starts.

WARNING: The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel system component. Fuel Filter And Shield REMOVAL 1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, and remove the fuel tank cap. 2. Raise, and support the vehicle for access. 3. Remove the fuel filter shield. Remove fuel filter hoses and clamps from the inlet and outlet fuel lines. Remove the retaining strap bolt, and remove the filter. INSTALLATION 1. Install the new filter in the retaining strap. Check the direction of flow by the markings on the filter, and ensure it is correct. 2. Install the retaining strap bolt, and torque to 12 Nm (8.8 lb-ft) 3. Install the inlet and outlet hoses, and clamps. Tighten the clamps securely. Reinstall the filter shield, and lower the vehicle. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.Using the DRB II select the Automatic Shut Down (ASD) Fuel System Test to pressurize fuel system and check for leaks. Refer to Powertrain Management / Computers and Control Systems / Testing and Inspection / Procedures See: Powertrain Management\Computers and Control Systems\Testing and Inspection CAUTION: Unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position the fuel pump relay and the ASD relay will remain energized for 7 minutes by the ASD Fuel System Test.

WARNING: DO NOT remove the cylinder block drain plugs or loosen the radiator draincock with the system hot and under pressure. Serious burns from the coolant can occur . NOTE: DO NOT WASTE reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse. REMOVAL CAUTION: If the water pump is replaced because of mechanical damage, the fan blades and viscous fan drive should also be inspected. These components could have been damaged due to excessive vibration. NOTE: The water pump can be removed without discharging the air conditioning system (if equipped). The water pump impeller is pressed on the rear of the pump shaft and bearing assembly. The water pump is serviced only as a complete assembly.
