OPERATION BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE Before using the REMOTE ENGINE STARTER to start your vehicle, please be sure of the follow- ing conditions. The shift lever is in the “P” position. (Without Push Start) The key is not inserted in the key cylinder. (With Push Start) The engine can be remotely started regardless of whether the driver has a smart key remote inside or outside the vehicle. All doors are closed. The hood is closed. OPERATION REMOTE ENGINE START (vehicles without Smart Entry System) To start a non-Smart Entry vehicle remotely, press and release the LOCK button twice within two seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button for three seconds. STEP 1. Press and release the LOCK button twice within two seconds. The hazard lights will flash each time. A) Press and release the LOCK button. LOCK TWO SECONDS B) The hazard lights flash once. C) Press and D) The hazard release the lights flash LOCK button again. again. FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY: STEP 2. Press and hold the LOCK button for three seconds. The hazard lights flash once when pressed, then again after three seconds. The engine starts, and the hazard lights flash for 20 seconds.

DESCRIPTION On vehicles equipped with the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS), doors (liftgate), hood and ignition circuit are monitored by the Body Control Module (BCM) when system is armed. VTSS will prevent engine from starting until BCM receives disarm signal. If VTSS is triggered, horn will pulse, headlights and marker lights will flash and VTSS warning light will flash. OPERATION ARMING PROCEDURE METHOD “A” Remove key from ignition, open any door and actuate one of the following: Power door lock button to LOCK. Key fob LOCK button. Door lock key cylinder to locked position. Close all doors. After last door is closed, arming time-out period of 16 seconds begins, after which VTSS becomes armed. ARMING PROCEDURE METHOD “B” Actuating key fob LOCK button, or key locking front doors or liftgate with doors closed and ignition locked will begin arming time-out period. TIME-OUT PERIOD VTSS system requires 16 seconds to time-out and arm. TRIGGERING VTSS SYSTEM After VTSS is armed, the following actions will trigger alarm: Opening any door. Opening hood. Turning ignition switch to ON or UNLOCK position. TESTING See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER TESTS in the BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article.

1. Lower or raise the front door glass so that the distance from the top of the front door glass at the rear end to the upper part of the front molding is 185 mm {7.3 in} 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 3. Remove the front door trim. 4. Disassemble in the order indicated below. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. Inner handle Front door trim bracket Door screen Front door glass Front manual window regulator Front power window regulator Glass run channel Front door lock Outer handle Door key cylinder Door weatherstrip Door lower weatherstrip 5. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly. Front Door Glass Disassembly Note 1. Remove the front door glass installation bolts. 2. Slant the front door glass as shown, and remove the front door glass from the inside of the front door. Outer Handle Assembly Note 1. Connect the door key cylinder harness of outer handle as shown.

1. Remove key cylinder. Refer to previous steps. 2. Remove lower steering column cover screws and remove cover. 3. Remove ignition switch mounting screw. Use tamper proof torx bit (Snap-On® SDMTR10 or equivalent) to remove the screw. 4. Using a small screwdriver, push on locking tab and remove switch from steering column. 5. Disconnect two electrical connectors at rear of ignition switch. INSTALLATION 1. 2. 3. 4. Before installing ignition switch, rotate the slot in the switch to the ON position. Connect two electrical connectors to rear of ignition switch. Make sure that locking tabs are fully seated into wiring connectors. Position switch to column and install tamper proof screw. Tighten screw to 3 N.m (26 in. lbs.). Install steering column lower cover.

1. 2. 3. 4. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove steering wheel refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Wheel/Service and Repair. Remove tilt lever, if equipped. Remove upper and lower covers. 5. 6. 7. Remove ignition switch mounting screws, Torx tool No. TTXR15A2 or equivalent then gently pull switch away from column. Disconnect connector lock on 7 pin terminal wiring connector, then the 4 terminal Switch and Halo light connector. Remove the key cylinder from ignition switch as follows:a. Insert key and place ignition switch in lock position. Using a small screwdriver, depress key cylinder retaining pin flush with key cylinder surface. Rotate key clockwise to Off position. The key cylinder should unseat from the ignition switch assembly. With the key in cylinder in the unseated position, rotate key counterclockwise to the lock position. b. c. d. Remove the key, then the lock cylinder. INSTALLATION Connect wiring connectors to switch. Ensure that lock tabs are fully seated.
