ISSUE Some 2005-2009 Escape Hybrid and 2006-2009 Mariner Hybrid vehicles may exhibit an intermittent Red Triangle On and Stop Safely Now message displayed on the message center accompanied by a sudden RPM loss/no start symptom with a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P1A0C. Vehicles may exhibit this symptom on the first start of the morning or after an extended idle. The symptom will clear on the next key cycle. ACTION Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE For vehicles outside the new vehicle limited warranty, if diagnostics lead to replacing the throttle body you may use this procedure to clean the throttle body as an alternative to replacing it. This procedure is not covered by the new vehicle limited warranty. NOTE THIS CLEANING PROCEDURE CAN ONLY BE USED ON NON-COATED THROTTLE BODIES. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 303-04C Removal and Installation – Throttle Body. 1. Remove the throttle body. 2. With the throttle body positioned to the side, open the throttle plate. 3. Using Motorcraft® Choke and Linkage Cleaner or equivalent, spray the throttle body plate and bore. 4. Using a suitable (nylon) brush, clean the edges of the throttle plate and the mating surface of the throttle bore to remove all carbon build up. 5. Reapply Motorcraft® Choke and Linkage Cleaner or equivalent and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth. 6. Remove old throttle body gasket and discard. Install a new throttle body gasket. 7. Install the throttle body.

NOTE: Adjust the valves only when the cylinder head temperature is less than 100ºF (38ºC). 1. ‘98-99 models: Remove the throttle body cover (A), ignition wire cover (B) and intake manifold covers (C). ‘00-02 models: Remove the throttle body cover (A), intake manifold covers (B) and intake manifold cover stay (C). ‘98-99 models: ‘00-02 models: 2. Remove the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister hose (A) from the throttle body. 3. Remove the vacuum hose (B) and breather pipe (C), then remove the intake air duct (D). 4. Remove the throttle cable (A) and cruise control cable (B) by loosening the locknuts (C), then slip the cable ends out of the accelerator linkage. Take care not to bend the cables when removing them. Always replace any kinked cable with a new one. 5. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose (A), vacuum hoses (B) and Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose (C). 6. Remove the vacuum hose (A) (’98-99 models), breather hose (B) and water bypass hoses (C). 7. Remove the intake manifold. 8. Remove the cylinder head covers. 9. Remove the front upper cover. 10. Set the No. 1 piston at TDC. Align the pointer (A) on the back cover with the No. 1 piston TDC mark (B) on the front camshaft pulley. 11. Select the correct thickness feeler gauge for the valves you’re going to check. Intake: Exhaust: 0.20-0.24 mm (0.008-0.009 in.) 0.28-0.32 mm (0.011-0.013 in.)

ISSUE Some 2003-2006 Expedition and Navigator vehicles equipped with an air suspension may exhibit an air suspension height sensor linkage arm disengaging from the suspension ball stud or height sensor rotating arm. This concern typically occurs with the rear sensor (Figure 1) but may occur with the front sensors as well. If this occurs, the symptom will typically be the vehicle leaning to one side, the vehicle sitting too low/high, a harsh ride, and/or an inoperative air suspension. In addition, this concern may result in diagnostic trouble code (DTC) C1725 (air suspension front pneumatic failure) or C1726 (air suspension rear pneumatic failure). ACTION When a linkage arm becomes disengaged, do not re-attach the arm and do not replace the sensor unless broken. Instead, install a revised linkage arm on all three (3) sensor assemblies, even if they have not detached from the ball stud.Refer to the following Service Procedure. SERVICE PROCEDURE NOTE IF THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR ANY DAMAGE/FAILURE OTHER THAN THE ONE DESCRIBED IN THIS TSB, THE REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLY IS SUPPLIED WITH A NEW STYLE LINKAGE ARM, SO THERE IS NO NEED TO ORDER ADDITIONAL LINKAGES FOR THE SERVICE REPAIR. 1. Replace linkage arms on all three (3) sensor assemblies following Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-05. 2. Discard the old linkage arms.

1 Push plastic lock with screwdriver out of handle and remove handle. 2 Unclip cover at top from door frame and pull out in upward direction. 3 Force off molding on inside door actuation and turn out screw inside on handle. 4 Disengage linkage of door handle, push door inside actuation forward and remove. 5 Move window downward and then remove window crank. 6 Remove bordering on door lock. 7 Push door lining upwards and remove. Note: If the sealing foil on inner door plate is damaged, renew prior to installing door lining. Installation 8 Introduce door lining from above into plug clamps on window shaft with hooks into inside door plate, while inserting locking knob into door lining. 9 Engage linkage on door handle and insert door inside actuation on door inside plate (3 slots). 10 Fasten hand grip inside with screw. Note: Screw on hand grip is micro-encapsulated. Either replace or screw in with a screw

NOTE: The recirculation control motor, the power transistor, the blower motor high relay and the blower motor can be replaced without removing the blower unit. Before reassembly, make sure that the recirculation control doors and linkage move smoothly without binding. After reassembly, make sure the recirculation control motor runs smoothly. Make sure that there is no air leakage.
