1. Remove the front door trim panel and watershield from the front door. Refer to Section 01-05A or Section 01-05B. 2. Disconnect front door latch actuating rod (22152) from lock cylinder. 3. Remove attaching screws from front door latch remote control and link (21818). Remove front door latch remote control and link from front door. 4. Disconnect front door latch control cylinder rod (22134) from front door latch remote control and link. 5. Disconnect front door latch remote control link. For installation, follow removal procedures in reverse order. Front Door Latch Installation, Aerostar Liftgate, Aerostar Removal and Installation 1. Open liftgate and remove liftgate door trim panel and liftgate handle, if so equipped. 2. Disconnect liftgate latch release rod from control assembly. 3. Remove three latch retaining screws and remove luggage compartment door lock mechanism cover (43243) and latch from liftgate. 4. On vehicles equipped with liftgate ajar warning switch, pull latch slightly away from liftgate and disconnect electrical wire harness from the latch. To install, reverse Steps 1 through 4. Tighten liftgate handle retaining screws to 4-8 Nm (36-70 lb-in). Liftgate Latch, Aerostar

1. Remove the battery (10655). For additional information, refer to Battery. 2. Remove the battery junction box (BJB) cover and remove the attachment nut securing the positive cable. 3. Remove the negative cable bolt. 4. Remove the harness clips from the cable in the luggage compartment. 5. Remove the rear seat cushion. 6. Remove the upper RH B-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to Section 501-05. 7. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar Remove the lower RH B-pillar trim cover and scuff plate screws . 8. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar Remove the RH front and rear scuff plates. 9. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar Remove the RH A-pillar lower trim panel and position aside the carpet to expose battery cable. 10. Remove the retaining tie straps and detach the cable forward past the rear seatback into the passenger compartment. 11. Remove the cable attachment cover and the nut at the dash through-bolt and remove the cable. 12. In the engine compartment at the dash panel, remove the protective cover and the nut. 13. Remove the bolt at the body.

1. Vent the air suspension system. WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE AN AIR SPRING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN THERE IS PRESSURE IN THE AIR SPRING. DO NOT REMOVE ANY COMPONENTS SUPPORTING AN AIR SPRING WITHOUT EITHER EXHAUSTING THE AIR OR PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THE AIR SPRING TO PREVENT VEHICLE DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY . 2. Turn the air suspension switch off. WARNING: BEFORE PERFORMING MAINTENANCE ON ANY AIR SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, DISCONNECT THE POWER TO THE SYSTEM BY TURNING OFF THE AIR SUSPENSION SWITCH LOCATED ON THE LH SIDE OF THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TO PREVENT VEHICLE DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY . 3. Raise and support the vehicle. 4. Remove the rear air spring retainer. 5. Lift the bottom of the air spring off the rear axle. 6. Remove the air spring. 1) Disconnect the electrical connector. 2) Push up on the air line retaining ring and disconnect the air line. 3) Remove the air spring. INSTALLATION To install, reverse the removal procedure. NOTE: To avoid damage to the air spring, do not allow suspension to compress before the spring is inflated. When installing the air line into the solenoid, a minimum of 3 mm (1/8 inch) of line must be inserted for proper operation of the air spring.

1. (w/ AIR SUSPENSION) MOVE HEIGHT CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TO “OFF” 2. JACK UP VEHICLE, REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 3. REMOVE FRONT BRAKE CYLINDER AND DISC ROTOR (a) Remove the two bolts and remove the brake cylinder from the steering knuckle. (b) Hang up the brake cylinder using wire, etc. (c) Place matchmarks on the disc rotor and axle hub. (d) Remove the two screws and remove the disc rotor. 4. REMOVE SPEED SENSOR FROM STEERING KNUCKLE 5. CHECK BACKLASH IN BEARING SHAFT DIRECTION Place the dial indicator near the center of the axle hub and check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction. Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) If greater than the specified maximum, replace the bearing. 6. CHECK AXLE HUB DEVIATION Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt. Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) If greater than the specified maximum, replace the axle hub.
