REMOVE OR DISCONNECT 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove starter motor. 3. Disconnect sensor harness connector at module. 4. Remove sensor to block bolt. 5. Remove sensor from engine. Inspect Inspect sensor O-ring for wear, cracks or leakage. Repace as needed. Lube new O-ring with clean engine oil before installing. INSTALL OR CONNECT 1. Sensor into block. 2. Install bolt. Tighten Bolt to 8 Nm (71 lb. in.) 3. Connect sensor harness connector at module. 4. Install starter motor. 5. Connect negative battery cable.

Condition Some customers may comment on a mild to severe engine ping (commonly referred to as spark knock), usually worse during acceleration and/or an illuminated MIL. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC P0332 set. Cause This condition may be the result of corrosion of the rear bank knock sensor due to water intrusion into the sensor cavity. This condition is more apparent on vehicles in which customers frequently wash the engine compartment

Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-07-30-007C (Section 07 – Transmission/Transaxle). Park/Neutral to Reverse or Drive (commonly called garage shift) engagement times may be different from what many customers might be accustomed to especially if they have recently traded for a General Motors vehicle. Normal Park/Neutral to Reverse or Drive engagement time will be in the vicinity of one (1) second if the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is above 0°C (32°F) . When the ATF is colder than 0°C (32°F), the engagement time will become longer the colder the transmission fluid. A time limit factor cannot be placed on proper engagement times because the factors that affect transmission operation are many. At the moment of engine start, for economy and emission requirements, the transmission line pressure is maintained at low levels. This allows a lower cold idle engine RPM (the colder the oil is the higher the energy level (engine torque output) required to pressurize the oil).

This vehicle was designed for starter mounting without shims. If single or double shims have been added to correct a noise or engagement problem, they should be reinstalled in their original positions to ensure proper pinion to flywheel assembly engagement. REMOVAL 1. 2. 3. 4. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle. Disconnect exhaust crossover pipe at manifolds. Remove starter motor mounting bolts and lower starter motor assembly, Fig. 1. Disconnect electrical connectors from starter motor assembly, then remove starter motor assembly. INSTALLATION Before connecting electrical connectors, tighten inner nuts on the solenoid terminals. If the nuts are not tight, the solenoid cap may be damaged during installation of connectors. Torque inner nut of BAT terminal to 80 inch lbs. 1. Connect electrical connectors to starter motor assembly, then torque BAT terminal nut to 85 inch lbs. and S terminal nut to 25 inch lbs. 2. Install starter motor assembly and torque mounting bolts to 40 ft. lbs. 3. Measure pinion to flywheel clearance, Fig. 2, adding shims if necessary. 4. Connect exhaust crossover pipe to manifolds, then lower vehicle and connect

Condition Some customers may comment on an engine tick noise. The distinguishing characteristic of this condition is that it likely will have been present since new, and is typically noticed within the first 161-322 km (100-200 mi). The noise may often be diagnosed as a collapsed lifter. Additionally, the noise may be present at cold start and appear to diminish and then return as the engine warms to operating temperature. This noise is different from other noises that may begin to occur at 3219-4828 km (2000-3000 mi).
