Removal CAUTION: Remove the entire clutch hydraulic system from the vehicle as an assembly when installing a new clutch master cylinder assembly (7C522). 1. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic tube from the dash clip. 2. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02. 3. Unlock and remove the slave cylinder (7A564) from the transmission. Compress and twist the slave cylinder to unlock it from the transmission. 4. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic tube from the floor pan clip. Position the slave cylinder and hydraulic tube forward below the left engine bank. This will make it easier to unlock the clutch master cylinder from the clutch pedal and support bracket (7B633) by reducing tension on the hydraulic tube. 5. Lower the vehicle. 6. WARNING: The clutch pedal is under spring tension. Unlock the push rod bushing retaining clips and separate the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal. 7. Remove and discard the push rod bushing (7526). 8. Remove the switch cover, and remove the clutch pedal position switch (7C534) from the clutch master cylinder push rod. 9. Separate the power distribution box from the bracket to gain access to the clutch master cylinder. 10. Unlock and remove the clutch master cylinder from the clutch pedal and support bracket. Compress and twist the clutch master cylinder clockwise 45 degrees to unlock it from the clutch pedal and support bracket. 11. Remove the clutch hydraulic reservoir from the wiring tray and separate the clutch hydraulic tube from the brake master cylinder assembly. Position the clutch hydraulic reservoir aside. 12. CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, wash the surface with water immediately. Remove the clutch hydraulic system from the vehicle. 13. Clean the clutch hydraulic system components to prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system. 14. CAUTION: Place a suitable container under the clutch master cylinder. Disconnect the hydraulic tube from the clutch master cylinder. 1. Using a 3/32-inch punch and a hammer, drive out the roll pin, and discard it. 2. Disconnect the hydraulic tube from the clutch master cylinder.

1. The PCM is located between driver’s side front fender and power distribution center, near battery. See Fig. 1 . Disconnect negative battery cable and then positive battery cable from battery. 2. Remove bolts on side of power distribution center that secure power distribution center to mounting bracket. Remove heat shield from outside of battery. Remove battery. 3. Rotate power distribution center toward the engine to disengage power distribution center from rear mounting bracket. Pull power distribution center toward rear of vehicle to disengage power distribution center from front mounting bracket. 4. Allow power distribution center to lay aside for access to PCM. Remove electrical connectors from PCM. Electrical connectors may be removed by squeezing tabs on electrical connector together and pulling electrical connector from PCM. Remove bolts and PCM. To install, reverse removal procedure.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. On 2000 Dakota, blower motor relay is located behind instrument panel, inboard of glove box. See Fig. 1 . On 2000 Durango, Ram Pickup, Ram Van/Wagon, front blower motor relay is located in Power Distribution Center (PDC). 2. On Ram Van/Wagon, front high speed blower motor relay is located in engine compartment, on top cover of on inboard side of heater housing assembly. See Fig. 2 . Rear blower motor relay and rear high speed blower motor relay are located in a connector bracket that is secured to back of rear A/C-heater unit cover. See Fig. 3 . 3. On all models, remove suspect blower motor relay or high speed blower motor relay. Using DVOM, check for continuity between terminals No. 87A and 30 of relay. See Fig. 4 . If continuity does not exist, replace relay. If continuity exists, go to next step. 4. Using DVOM, check for continuity between terminals No. 30 and 87 of relay. See Fig. 4 . If continuity exists, replace relay. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. 5. Measure resistance between terminals No. 85 and 86 of relay. See Fig. 4 . Reading should be 70-80 ohms. If reading is not as specified, replace relay. If reading is as specified, go to next step. 6. Using jumper wires, connect battery voltage to terminal No. 86 and ground terminal No. 85. See Fig. 4 . Check that continuity exists between terminals No. 30 and 87. Check that continuity does not exist between terminals No. 87A and 30. If continuity is not as specified, replace blower motor relay. If continuity is as specified, relay is okay.

The Power Distribution Center (PDC) cover, the PDC housing lower cover, the PDC relay wedges, the PDC relay cassettes and the PDC B(+) terminal stud module (WJ only) are available for service replacement (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2). The PDC cover can be simply unlatched and removed from the PDC housing without the PDC being removed or disassembled. Service of the remaining PDC components requires that the PDC be removed from its mounting and disassembled. Refer to Wiring Repair in the index of this service manual for the location of the wiring repair procedures.

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide procedures to retrieve or clear trouble codes without the Super Star II tester. The anti-lock brake/traction assist system has on-board diagnostic capabilities. However, the module as received from manufacturing is equipped with a stored error code (61). This will affect the service procedure. The error codes can be retrieved from the ABS module in the following manner. 1. 2. 3. 4. Connect Super STAR II tester to connector located in engine compartment on the power distribution box. Turn on Super STAR II tester and latch button down in TEST position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Read first code output. After approximately 15 seconds, the next code will be output. Leave button latched until all codes are output. NOTE: Make sure that all codes are written down. 5. The diagnostic procedure should be as follows provided that the CHECK ANTI-LOCK BRAKE indicator stays on all the time or flashes intermittently. NOTE: If the BRAKE warning indicator is on or intermittently comes on, refer to the Warning Indicator Symptom Chart. NOTE: If there are more codes stored in the anti-lock brake control module memory, no codes will erase until all codes have been output by the Super STAR II tester, all malfunctions have been serviced and the vehicle is driven about 40 km/h (25 mph). This means that if a 20s code originally existed and was serviced, it can be ignored when running the on-board diagnostic the second time. If the first code received is 18, 19 or in the 20s and no other code is received, service the indicated component. No other codes can be output if a 20s code exists. After servicing the indicated 18, 19, or 20s code, repeat the procedure for retrieving error codes. 6. If a code 61 is received with any other code, ignore the code 61 and service the other indicated components. If, after correcting all other indicated malfunctions, the CHECK ANTI-LOCK BRAKE indicator is still on, service the Fluid Level Switch (FLS) circuit. 7. If a code 61 is received and no other codes are received, service the FLS circuit. 8. If no code, or only a code 10 is received, use the Anti-Lock Quick Check Sheet since some possibilities are not recognized and retained in the anti-lock brake control module memory. When dealing with intermittent ABS warning light ON concern, make certain to visually inspect all wiring related to the component associated with the code received.
