Some of the vehicles affected by this campaign may contain a fuel tank assembly valve that may not close properly. This TSB provides the procedure to remedy this condition by installing an additional fuel tank assembly valve. For Sonata and XG350 vehicles (Please see pages 8-10 for Elantra and Tiburon vehicles): 1. Raise the vehicle. 2. Remove the three muffler hangers and support the rear muffler after it has been lowered 6 inches. NOTE: Do not allow the muffler to hang unsupported. Do not lower the muffler more than 6 inches. 3. Remove the rear suspension crossmember mounting bolts and lower the suspension crossmember. 4. Support the fuel tank using a jack stand. 5. Remove the left rear fuel tank band nut and lower the band from the mounting stud. 6. Disconnect the vapor hose from the ‘Y’ shaped tube. 7. Cut about 4 inches (100mm) from the end of the vapor hose as shown. Discard the 4 inch piece that you have removed. 8. Install the new valve bracket mounting hole over the fuel tank band stud and connect the cut end of the vapor hose to the lower nipple of the new valve. NOTE: The valve must be positioned above the mounting bracket, as shown. 9. Connect the upper hose from the new valve to the ‘Y’ shaped tube where the vapor hose was removed. 10. Install the fuel tank band over the valve bracket and tighten the nut. Torque Specification: Fuel Tank Band Nut (40-50 lb-ft, 54-68 Nm, 550-690 kg-cm) 11. Support the rear suspension using a crossmember jack. Carefully raise the suspension being sure not to make contact with the fuel tank. Tighten the four suspension mounting bolts after aligning the bolt holes and torque to specification. Torque Specification: Rear crossmember to body mounting bolt (74-88 lb-ft, 100-120Nm, 1000-1200kg-cm) 12. Reinstall the rear muffler. 13. Lower vehicle. For Elantra and Tiburon vehicles (Please see pages 3 – 7 for Sonata and XG350 vehicles): 1. Raise the vehicle. 2. Support the fuel tank using a jack stand and remove the rear fuel tank band nuts and lower the bands from the mounting studs. Using the jack, lower the fuel tank about 4 inches (100 mm) to obtain working space. 3. Disconnect the vapor hose in between the valve and the 3 way connector.

2005 – 2009 Tacoma Body Type(s): Access Cab, Double Cab, Regular Cab Drive Type(s): 2WD, 4WD Engine(s): 1GR, 2TR Transmission(s): 6MT, 5MT, 5AT VDS(s): JU62N, KU72N, LU42N, MU52N, NX62N, PX42N, TU62N, TX62N, UU42N, UX42N Introduction Some 2005 – 2009 Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a squeak noise coming from the rear suspension when traveling over bumps or rough road surfaces. The squeak type noise maybe caused by the rear leaf spring pads. A newly designed leaf spring silencer has been made available for this condition. Silencer Pad Procedure NOTE Perform the following procedures on both the RH and LH sides of the vehicle. Rear Silencer Pad Replacement 1. Place the vehicle on a lift. 2. Using a pry bar, separate the two main leafs, allowing access to the spring silencer pad installed on the lower leaf of the spring pack. CAUTION Be careful NOT to scratch the spring surface with the pry bar, pick, punch, screwdriver or other tools. 3. Use a pry bar as a wedge to hold the leaf springs apart. 4. Use a pick, punch, or screwdriver to push upward on the spring silencer pad from the underside of the spring pack through the access hole. 5. Push the spring silencer pad up high enough to remove it from the spring assembly. Applying light pressure to the back of the silencer pad will be enough to “pop” the pad out of position. 6. Using brake clean or equivalent, completely remove all grease and dirt between the leaf springs. NOTE Remove all grease and grease residue as the new silencer pad employs a self lubricating surface. DO NOT APPLY GREASE TO THE PAD AND SPRING SURFACE. 7. Index the new spring pad so that the locating tabs are facing away from the center of the leaf spring. Using a screwdriver or a pick, center the silencer pad in the hole in the leaf spring. 8. Install the spring silencer pad in the leaf spring pack carefully. It might be necessary to use another pry bar to “seat” the silencer pad into the mounting hole on the leaf spring assembly. Front Silencer Pad 1. Using a pry bar, separate the main two leafs, allowing access to the spring silencer pad installed on the lower leaf of the spring pack. CAUTION Be careful NOT to scratch the spring surface with the pry bar, pick, punch, screwdriver or other tools. 2. Use a pry bar as a wedge to hold the leaf spring apart when removing the spring silencer pad. 3. Use a pick, punch, or screwdriver to push upward on the spring silencer pad from the underside of the spring pack through the access hole. 4. Push the spring silencer pad up high enough to be able to remove it from the spring assembly. Applying light pressure to the back of the silencer pad will be enough to “pop” the pad out of position.

Removal 1. Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section 00-02. 2. Remove rear wheel and tire assembly. 3. Remove rear stabilizer bar link and bushing link nuts at both ends of rear stabilizer bar (5A772) . Rotate bar up and out of the way. 4. Disconnect parking brake rear cable and conduit (2A635) at rear disc brake caliper (2553) . 5. Install three Rotunda Spring Cages 086-00031 or equivalent to rear spring as follows: a. Install one spring cage without an adjuster link to the inboard side (the innermost “bend” of the rear spring (5560) ). b. Install two more spring cages, with adjusters, at 120 degree angles to the previously installed cage. Spring, Rear 6. Place a transmission jack or suitable stand under the rear suspension arm and bushing (5500) as far outboard as possible. 7. Support the rear wheel knuckle (5A969) assembly by wiring the rear suspension arm and bushing to the body. 8. Remove lower rear shock absorber mounting bolt, washer and nut. 9. NOTE: Rear suspension arm and bushing must not be lowered until pivot bolts are loose. Do not attempt to remove plastic cap on front pivot nut. Loosen both inboard pivot bolts on rear suspension arm and bushing . 10. Remove two bolts and nuts retaining rear suspension arm and bushing to rear wheel knuckle . 11. Lower the rear suspension arm and bushing by lowering jack. Ensure spring cages properly seat on rear spring as rear suspension arm and bushing is dropped. 12. Remove jack, lower rear suspension arm and bushing down fully by hand and remove rear spring with cages in place. 13. Remove rear spring center mounting insulators (5741) , if necessary. 14. If spring cages are to be removed for installation on rear spring , use Coil Spring Compressor D78P-5310-A or equivalent to compress rear spring and remove cages. Rear spring center mounting insulator should be installed on rear spring before installing rear spring in tool to prevent slipping of plates.
