1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-00. 2. Remove the cooling fan and the cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 3. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section 303-01A. 4. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table. 5. To install, reverse the removal procedure. 6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Item 1: Crankshaft Pulley Bolt Removal Note 1. Remove the bolts and position the power steering cooler aside. 2. CAUTION: This bolt is torque-to-yield and cannot be reused. Using the special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley, remove and discard the damper bolt. Item 2: Crankshaft Pulley Removal Note 1. Using the special tools and two 8 mm (0.31 in) x 1.25 x 100 mm bolts, remove the crankshaft pulley. Item 3: Front Crankshaft Seal Removal Note 1. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft front seal. Item 3: Front Crankshaft Seal Installation Note 1. Using the special tool, install the crankshaft front seal. Item 2: Crankshaft Pulley Installation Note

Removal 1. Remove the rear driveshaft assembly. 2. Using the special tool, remove the pinion nut. 3. Index-mark the location of the rear axle pinion flange. 4. Using the special tool, remove the rear axle pinion flange. 5. Using the special tool, remove the rear pinion oil seal. Installation Note: Make sure that the mating surface is clean before installing the new seal. 1. Using the special tool, install a new rear pinion oil seal. Note: Lubricate the pinion flange with grease. 2. Line up the index marks and position the pinion flange. 3. Using the special tool, install a new pinion nut. 4. Install the rear driveshaft assembly.

1. Apply silicone sealant to the engine front cover as shown in the figure. CAUTION: Install the engine front cover within 10 min of applying the silicone sealant. Silicone sealant is not need in area C as indicated below due to an existing. They are oil and a thing without adhesion of dust to a seal side. Thickness A: 2.2-3.2 mm {0.087-0.125 in} B: 1.5-2.5 mm {0.059-0.098 in} 2. Install the engine front cover bolts in the order shown in the figure. FRONT OIL SEAL INSTALLATION NOTE1. Apply clean engine oil to the oil seal. 2. Push the oil seal slightly in by hand. 3. Compress the oil seal using the SST and a hammer. NO. 3 ENGINE MOUNT RUBBER AND NO. 3 ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET INSTALLATION NOTE 1. Tighten the stud bolt of the No. 3 engine mount bracket. Tightening torque 7.0-13 N.m {71.4-132.5 kgf.cm, 62.0-115.0 in.lbf} NOTE: Tightening stud bolt when the nut of No. 3 engine mount nut is loosened. 2. Hand-tighten the No. 3 engine mount rubber and No. 3 engine mount bracket. 3. Tighten the bolts and nuts in the order as shown in the figure.

REMOVAL 1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Remove wheel and tire assemblies. 3. Remove the brake drums. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control, for proper procedures. 4. Mark the propeller shaft and pinion yoke for installation alignment reference. 5. Remove the propeller shaft from the yoke. 6. Rotate the pinion gear three or four times. 7. Measure the amount of torque necessary to rotate the pinion gear with a (inch lbs.) dial-type torque wrench. Record the torque reading for installation reference. 8. Using Holder 6958 to hold the pinion yoke, remove the pinion nut and washer. 9. Use Remover C-452 and Wrench C-3281 to remove the pinion yoke. 10. Use a suitable pry tool or slide hammer mounted screw to remove the pinion gear seal. INSTALLATION 1. Apply a light coating of gear lubricant on the lip of pinion seal. Install seal with Installer C-3972-A and Handle C-4171. CAUTION: Do not exceed the minimum tightening torque when installing the pinion yoke at this point. Damage to the collapsible spacer or bearings may result. 3. Install the yoke washer and a new nut on the pinion gear and tighten the pinion nut until there is zero bearing end-play. 4. Tighten the nut to 271 Nm (200 ft. lbs.) . CAUTION: Never loosen pinion gear nut to decrease pinion gear bearing rotating torque and never exceed specified preload torque. If preload torque or rotating torque is exceeded a new collapsible spacer must be installed. The torque sequence will then have to be repeated.
