1. With vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-00. 2. Release the fuel pressure. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00. 3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-00. 4. If removing the fuel tank or fuel pump module, use the special tool and siphon the fuel through the fuel filler hose into a suitable container. 5. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustrations and tables. To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps: 6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. 7. Turn the ignition key to the ON position to pressurize the fuel system. 8. Visually inspect the fuel system for leaks. Item 3: Fuel Filler Pipe Pin-Type Retainer Removal Note 1. Remove the LH rear wheel well inner splash shield. Item 7: Fuel Filler Pipe Removal Note 1. CAUTION: Some fuel will remain in the fuel filler pipe after draining the fuel tank. Carefully drain the filler pipe into an appropriate container. Separate the fuel vapor fresh air hose from the fuel filler pipe mounting bracket. Items 9, 10 and 18: Fuel Supply and Vapor Tube Quick Connect Fittings Removal Note 1. CAUTION: When reusing liquid or vapor tube connectors, make sure to use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the connector retaining clip area before separating the tube. NOTE: If the fuel tube or retainer clip is broken or damaged, install a new clip using a suitable fuel line disconnect tool to separate the retainer clip legs. Once the retainer clip legs have been separated, lift the clip out of the connector housing, lifting from the stamped side of the connector body. Disconnect the fuel tube quick release coupling. Push the connector towards the tube to release pressure. Press the fuel tube quick release coupling button and pull the fuel tube to disconnect.

NOTE: This procedure covers the removal and installation of the LH and RH front wheel driveshaft and joints. However, in the case of 1.8L engines, a halfshaft (3A329) is placed between the transaxle and the (outboard) front wheel driveshaft and joint (3B436) . For removal and installation procedures of either the two-piece RH front wheel driveshaft and joint assembly or the RH front wheel driveshaft and joint outboard half only, refer to the appropriate procedures in this section. Removal 1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Remove the lug nuts (1012) and the front wheel and tire assembly. 3. Remove the front fender splash shield bolts and the front fender splash shields (16103) . 4. Use a small cape chisel to carefully raise the staked portion of the front axle wheel hub retainer (3B477) . 5. Remove the front axle wheel hub retainer and discard it. 6. Remove the cotter pin and the tie rod end nut from the tie rod end (3A130) . Discard the cotter pin. 7. Use an appropriate tie rod end remover to separate the tie rod end from the front wheel knuckle (3K186) . 8. Remove the ball joint bolt and the ball joint bolt nut. 9. Carefully pry down on the front suspension lower arm (3078) to separate the front suspension lower arm ball joint (3050) from the front wheel knuckle . 10. Pull outward on the front wheel knuckle (3K185) . Carefully pull the front wheel driveshaft and joint from the front wheel knuckle and position it aside. 11. NOTE: Removal of the LH front wheel driveshaft and joint (3B437) requires removal of the rear engine support (6A023) to allow access with a pry bar. If the LH front wheel driveshaft and joint is being removed, continue with step 11. If the RH front wheel driveshaft and joint is being removed, continue with step 15. Support the transaxle with a transaxle jack or equivalent. 12. Remove the four transaxle mount-to-rear engine support nuts. 13. Remove the two rear engine support nuts at the rear of the rear engine support . 14. While supporting the rear of the rear engine support remove the two rear engine support bolts. WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel causing personal injury or a fire hazard. 1. If the fuel tank, fuel transfer pump or fuel delivery module is being removed drain the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Fuel Tank Draining in this section. 2. If the fuel tank is being removed, remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Section 205-00. 3. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustrations and tables. To remove individual parts, only carry out the listed steps: Part Steps 4. To install, reverse the removal procedure. 5. Fill the fuel tank. 6. Turn the ignition key to the ON position to pressurize the fuel system. 7. Visually inspect the fuel system for leaks. Item 5: Fuel Filler Pipe Removal Note 1. Remove the right rear well inner fender splash shield. 2. CAUTION: Some fuel will remain in the filler pipe after draining the fuel tank. Carefully drain the filler pipe into an approved container.
