COMPONENTS REMOVAL OF CAM POSITION SENSOR 1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF BATTERY 2. DISCONNECT CAM POSITION SENSOR CONNECTOR 3. SET NO.1 CYLINDER TO TDC COMPRESSION (a) Remove the oil filler cap. (b) Look through oil filler hole and turn the crankshaft clockwise until the cam nose can be seen. (c) Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise approximately 1200. (d) Turn the crankshaft again approximately 100 to 400 clockwise so that the timing belt cover TOC mark and the crankshaft pulley TDC mark are aligned. 4. REMOVE NO.4 AIR CLEANER PIPE WITH NO.1 AND NO.2 AIR CLEANER HOSES 5. REMOVE NO.7 AIR CLEANER HOSE WITH AIR FLOW METER AND AIR CLEANER CAP (a) Disconnect the three air hoses and PCV hose. (b) Disconnect the air flow meter connector. (c) Disconnect the PS idle up air hose.

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. For 1995 Supra, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM, for 1996 Supra, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. DESCRIPTION & OPERATION Supra uses Nippondenso 4-brush, solenoid-actuated, reduction gear type starters, equipped with over-running clutches. The brush holder assembly retains 4 brushes and springs in the starter housing. Reduction gear type starters contain an integral solenoid attached to drive housing, a reduction idler gear and bearing installed into starter housing, and a clutch drive assembly. The clutch drive assembly is mounted to starter housing and is driven by the reduction idler gear from armature shaft. The brush holder assembly retains 4 brushes and 4 springs in the end cover of field frame housing. Planetary gear type starters contain a clutch pinion drive assembly mounted in-line with armature shaft. The clutch pinion drive assembly is mounted onto drive end of planetary gear carrier shaft which is driven by armature shaft. The planetary gears increase torque from armature to turn clutch pinion drive assembly.

1995-96 A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil Checking All Models * PLEASE READ THIS FIRST * CAUTION: DO NOT exceed A/C system refrigerant oil capacity, when servicing system. See REFRIGERANT OIL & REFRIGERANT SPECIFICATIONS. See the COMPRESSOR SERVICING article for compressor servicing procedures. SERVICING PRECAUTIONS DISCHARGING SYSTEM Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Always follow recovery/recycling equipment manufacturer’s instructions. After refrigerant recovery process is completed, the amount of compressor oil removed must be measured and the same amount added to A/C system. DISCONNECTING LINES & FITTINGS After system is discharged, carefully clean area around all fittings to be opened. Always use 2 wrenches when tightening or loosening fittings. Some refrigerant lines are connected with a coupling. Special tools may be required to disconnect lines. Cap or plug all openings as soon as lines are removed. Remove caps until connections of lines and fittings are to be completed. CONNECTING LINES & FITTINGS
