1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR. 2. Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement. IMPORTANT: The abrasion sleeve located on the steering column wire harness assembly must be reinstalled. Make note of what connector is coming out of the abrasion sleeve for installation purposes. 3. Remove the wire harness assembly (1) from the wire harness strap (2). 4. Disconnect the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly connector from the SIR system coil connector. 5. Slide the 2 connectors (2) of the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly out of the bulkhead connector (1). 6. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) and (3) from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2). 7. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly. Installation Procedure 1. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2) onto the steering column tilt head assembly. NOTE: IMPORTANT: Be sure that the electrical contact of the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (2) rests on the turn signal cancel cam assembly. 2. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) and (3) into the turn signal and multifunction assembly (2). Tighten Tighten the top pan head tapping screw (1) to 3 N.m (27 lb in). Tighten the side pan head tapping screw (3) to 7 N.m (62 lb in). Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR. 2. Remove the screw caps from upper steering column. 3. Remove the screws from upper steering column. 4. Remove the upper steering column cover. 5. 6. 7. 8. Remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement-On Vehicle. Remove the rubber protective cover from lock cylinder. Remove the screws from lower steering column cover. Remove the lower steering column cover. 2000 Cadillac Catera V6-3.0L VIN R 9. Depress the tabs to release turn signal switch from the steering column. 10. Disconnect the turn signal switch electrical connector. Installation Procedure 1. Connect the electrical connector to turn signal switch.

Tool Required: Lock Plate Compressor Important ^ Use only the specified screws, bolts and nuts at assembly. The use of over-length screws could prevent a portion of the assembly from compressing under impact. Feed the connector down through the housing and under the mounting bracket. Install the cover on the harness. 1. Turn signal switch and mounting screws. Clip the connector to the bracket on the jacket. 2. Instrument panel trim plate. 3. Hazard warning knob. 4. Turn signal lever and screws. Put the turn signal switch in the “Neutral” position. Pull out on the hazard warning knob. 5. Washer: upper bearing preload spring and cancelling cam onto the upper end of the shaft. 6. Lock plate onto the end of the shaft. Screw the center post of J-23653-B onto the steering shaft as far as it will go. Place a NEW retaining ring over the center post. Place the “C” bar over the center post and then compress the lock plate by turning the nut clockwise. Slide the new retaining ring down the tapered center post and into the shaft groove. Remove J 23653-B. 7. Cover on the lock plate and snap into position. 8. Steering wheel.
