Some customers may complain of excessive sulfur odor on 2006 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with the 1GR–FE (V6) engine under the following conditions: S Stop and go driving S Heavy acceleration In order to reduce the sulfur odor, new catalytic converter assemblies have been made available. Follow the repair procedure to replace the catalytic converter assemblies. Subject: L36, L67, L26, L32, LA1, LX9, MN7, M15 Ticking or Knocking Type Noise Coming From Engine or Transmission Area (Replace Flexplate and Torque Converter) Models: 2005 Buick Park Avenue 2005-2006 Buick Allure (Canada Only), LaCrosse, LeSabre, Rendezvous, Terraza 2005 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, Venture 2005-2006 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx, Uplander 2005 Pontiac Aztek, Bonneville 2005-2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, G6 GTP, Montana SV6 2006 Saturn Relay AWD with 3800 3.8L Series III V6 Engine (VINs K, 1, 2, 4, – RPOs L36, L67, L26, L32) or 3500 3.5L V6 Engine (VINs L, 8 RPO LX9) or 3400 3.4L V6 Engine (VIN E – RPO LA1) and Hydra- Matic(R) 4T65-E Transmission (RPOs MN7, M15) Some customers may comment on a ticking or knocking type noise coming from the engine or transmission area. Cause Typically the noise is caused by either the transmission rear dust cover contacting the flexplate (refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 05-06-01-028) or a cracked flexplate (sometimes also referred to as a flywheel). Correction With the vehicle raised and supported on a suitable hoist, verify that the noise is coming from the flexplate area. If the noise is present, follow the procedure below. If the noise is not coming from the flexplate area, refer to Lower Engine Noise, Regardless of Engine Speed in SI. Important: The following information only applies to vehicles with the noise coming from the flexplate area.

2001-2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA ADJUSTMENT – CATALYTIC CONVERTER

Some customers of 2001-02 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo; Pontiac Grand Prix; and Buick Regal model vehicles, equipped with a 3.4L (RPO LA1 – VIN E) or 3.8L (RPO L36 – VIN K) V6 engine, may experience a condition where the vehicle exhaust catalytic converter is replaced due to complaints of lack of power or illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). This may be due to the front endcone insulation from the catalytic converter breaking away and blocking the front of the first catalyst brick and preventing the free flow of exhaust gas through the converter. SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT This special policy covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (190,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after September 15, 2005 are covered by this special policy and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to September 15, 2005 must be submitted to the Service Contract provider. VEHICLES INVOLVED Involved are all 2001-02 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo; Pontiac Grand Prix; Buick Regal model vehicles, equipped with a 3.4L (RPO LA1 – VIN E) or 3.8L (RPO L36 – VIN K) V6 engine and built within the following VIN breakpoints:
