Connect gauge between fuel pipe and fuel distribution manifold, use hose 5116 and nipple 5265, Plug open end of hose with 5266. Turn gauge cock to position 1, pointing toward hose 5116. B13 Check Function Of Fuel Pump And Tank Pump Pressure sensor is located next to expansion tank in engine compartment. Disconnect connector from sensor. Turn on ignition. Connect wire (in connector) from relay to ground. (Note: both wires are yellow/black, check which one is ground). Fuel pumps should start and be clearly heard. B14 Check Tank Pump Unscrew fuel filler cap and listen. It is also possible to connect an ammeter between the fuse and pump wiring. 740 1985-on: fuse 11 760 up to 1987: fuse 11 760 1988/89: fuse 11/30 Current consumption: 1-2 A. If neither pump operates: Turn off ignition.

INITIAL CHECKS (PRIOR TO REMOVAL) PURPOSE Checking and recording the ignition timing and manifold vacuum level before and after the timing belt replacement allows for two assurances: – Initial conditions are correct. – Verifies the quality of the job after the belt has been installed. WHY Ignition Timing Ignition timing is the position of the piston on its compression stroke when the ignition coil fires the associated sparkplug. Ignition timing is affected by two sources. – Physical rotation of the distributor. – Alignment of the camshaft and crankshaft via the timing belt. Prior to replacing the timing belt it is very important to verify that this relationship is correct. If the timing belt is installed correctly the after-repairs timing check should be within 2 degrees of the pre-repairs timing check. NOTE: Minor differences, +/- 2 degrees may result from original belt stretching as it aged. If the timing belt is initially installed incorrectly, the prerepairs ignition timing may not be correct, and the after-repairs timing will differ greatly from the initial. Checking the timing before and after the job will help prevent confusion and verify the job was done correctly.

CAUTION: Excessive boost pressure can damage your engine. NOTE: First check all turbo related hoses and connections for good condition. Replace if needed. 1. Connect pressure gauge Volvo tool #5230 (or equivalent) between line to boost pressure gauge and intake manifold connection. 2. Run gauge into passenger compartment. 3. Start engine and run until it reaches operating temperature. 4. Drive vehicle in 3rd gear (2nd for A/T) at approx 1500 RPM. 5. Press accelerator pedal to the floor (but do not engage kick-down). 6. Apply brakes at approx. 3000 RPM while still holding the accelerator pedal in the full load position. Do not apply brakes for more than five seconds. Read boost pressure on gauge. Reading: 50 ±4 kPa (7.1 ±0.6 psi) If boost pressure is correct, turbo system operates correctly. Disconnect all testing equipment and reinstall hose. If boost pressure is incorrect, adjust wastegate valve (refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES ) and retest. 7. If valve adjustment does not fix the problem, check the following:
