1. Disconnect battery ground cable. 2. Remove air cleaner outlet tube. 3. Drain cooling system and remove fan blade and fan shroud . Refer to Section 03-03. 4. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect fuel lines. Refer to Section 10-01. 5. Remove upper radiator hose. 6. Remove windshield wiper governor and support bracket. Refer to Section 01-16. 7. Discharge air conditioning system. Refer to Section 12-00. 8. Disconnect A/C compressor to condenser discharge line at A/C compressor and remove bolt retaining hose assembly to RH ignition coil bracket. 9. Remove 42-pin engine harness connector from retaining bracket on power brake booster . 10. Disconnect 42-pin connector and transmission harness connector. 11. Disconnect throttle valve control actuating cable from throttle body . 12. Disconnect heater water hose. 13. Remove nut retaining ground strap to RH cylinder head . 14. Remove upper stud and lower bolt retaining heater water hose to RH cylinder head and position out of way. 15. Remove heater blower motor switch resistor. 16. Remove bolt retaining RH front engine support insulator to front sub-frame . 17. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Section 00-02. 18. Drain engine oil. 19. Remove the lower splash shield. NOTE: Two through bolts for LH front engine support insulator and one through bolt for RH front engine support insulator . 20. Remove front engine support insulator through bolts. 21. Remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube nut from RH exhaust manifold and remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube . 22. Disconnect three-way catalytic converter from RH and LH exhaust manifold . 23. Lower exhaust and wire to crossmember in positions shown. 24. Position a screw-type jackstand and a block of wood under oil pan , rearward of oil drain hole. 25. Raise engine approximately 100mm (4 inches). 26. Insert two wood blocks approximately 60-70mm (2.5-2.75 inches) thick under each front engine support insulator. 27. Lower engine onto wood blocks and remove jack from under oil pan .

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to the procedure in this section. 2. Remove the upper radiator hose bracket bolt and the upper radiator hose bracket. 3. Reposition the water bypass hose clamp and remove the water bypass hose (8597) from the water hose connection (8592) . 4. If equipped with A/C, remove the drier to evaporator liquid line bracket bolt and the drier to evaporator liquid line bracket to gain access to the water thermostat (8575) . 5. If equipped with A/C, remove the suction accumulator/drier bracket bolts and the suction accumulator/drier bracket. 6. If equipped with A/C, position the suction accumulator/drier (19C836) and drier to evaporator liquid line (19837) out of the way. 7. Remove the four water hose connection bolts and the water hose connection. 8. Remove the water thermostat from the thermostat housing. Installation 1. Clean the thermostat housing cover mating surface and groove of any remaining sealant. 2. Completely clean any coolant from these areas. 3. NOTE: Position the water hose connection on the thermostat housing within five minutes of applying the silicone sealant. Apply a continuous bead of silicone sealant to the inner surface and the perimeter of the water hose connection . The sealant should be 2.0-3.0mm (0.08-0.12 inch) wide on all sealing areas. 4. NOTE: When installing the water thermostat , ensure the jiggle valve is pointing upward.

1. Depressurize the engine cooling system. WARNING: THE ENGINE MUST BE OFF, FULLY COOL AND THE COOLING SYSTEM FULLY DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DISCONNECT ANY HEATER WATER HOSES. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS WARNING CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR BURNS FROM HOT LIQUID ESCAPING OUT OF THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM. 2. Push the heater water hose toward the tube to fully expose the locking tabs. 3. Push the Heater Hose Disconnect Tool over the coupling retainer windows to compress the retainer locking tabs. NOTE: When compressing the white coupling retainer, the Heater Hose Disconnect Tool must be perpendicular to and on the highest point of the coupling. 3. Push the Heater Hose Disconnect Tool over the coupling retainer windows to compress the retainer locking tabs. NOTE: When compressing the white coupling retainer, the Heater Hose Disconnect Tool must be perpendicular to and on the highest point of the coupling. 7. Spread the retainer tabs apart and slide the retainer off the tube. 8. Discard the retainer. CONNECT 1. Clean the tubes and lubricate with Ford Rubber Suspension Insulator Lube E25Y-19553-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESF-M99B112-A.

Only open sealing cover on expansion tank when engine has cooled down. Drain coolant, refer to Cooling System – Service and Repair – Procedures See: Service and Repair Remove fan cowl, refer to Fan Shroud – Service and Repair – Procedures See: Fan Shroud/Service and Repair Note: When removing the fan cowl, note the engine variant. Air conditioner Disconnect plug connection on temperature switch. Disconnect upper water hose. Disconnect lower water hose. 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster 2.5 (E36/7) L6-2494cc 2.5L DOHC (M52 TU) Disconnect expansion hose. Automatic transmission Remove transmission oil cooler lines, catch transmission oil as it escapes and dispose of correctly. Installation: Check transmission oil level and correct if necessary, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain. Check connection for leaks. AIR CONDITIONING UNIT REMOVAL DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM HINT: Evacuate air from refrigeration system. Charge system with refrigerant and inspect for leakage of refrigerant. Specified amount: w/o Rear A/C: 900 ?50g (31.74 ?1.76oz.) w/Rear A/C 1,150 ?50g (40.56 ?1.76oz.) 1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT HINT: It is not necessary to drain out all the coolant.
2. DISCONNECT WATER HOSE FROM HEATER RADIATOR PIPES HINT: 3. Push the water hose onto the heater radiator pipe as far as ridge on the pipe and install the hose clip. Install the hose clip in a position. DISCONNECT LIQUID AND SUCTION TUBES 4. Remove the 2 bolts and the both tubes. Torque: 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lb.)
