Vehicles receiving a new clockspring 1. NOTE: A new clockspring is supplied in a centralized position and held there with a key. Remove the key from the clockspring, holding the rotor in its centralized position. ? Do not allow the clockspring rotor to turn. Vehicles needing clockspring recentering 2. WARNING: Incorrect centralization may result in premature component failure. If in doubt when centralizing the clockspring, repeat the centralizing procedure. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. CAUTION: Make sure the road wheels are in the straight ahead position. NOTE: If a clockspring has rotated out of center, follow through with this step. Centralize the clockspring. 1. Hold the clockspring outer housing stationary. 2. Depress the clockspring locking tab to release the rotor. 3. CAUTION: Overturning will destroy the clockspring. The internal ribbon wire acts as the stop and can be broken from its internal connection. While holding the clockspring locking tab in the released position, turn the rotor counterclockwise, carefully feeling for the ribbon wire to run out of length, and a slight resistance is felt. Stop turning at this point. 4. While holding the clockspring locking tab in the released position, turn the clockspring clockwise approximately three turns. This is the center point of the clockspring. ? Release the clockspring locking tab. Do not allow the rotor to turn from this position. All vehicles 3. NOTE: Slight turning of the clockspring rotor is allowable for alignment purposes to the steering column. With the flats of the clockspring aligned to the flats of the steering column, slide the clockspring onto the steering column engaging the retaining tabs. 4. Route the clockspring wire harness down the side of the steering column and into the holders. 5. Connect the two clockspring electrical connectors. Position the clockspring electrical connectors onto the bracket. 6. Install the key-in-ignition warning indicator switch. 7. Install the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transmitter. 1. Position the PATS transmitter to the steering column. 2. Install the screw.

Separate the mirror housing from the mirror sail. 5 Unwrap the tape at the end of the mirror wire harness (seals it to the rubber sail gasket). This is required because the Signal® mirror wire will run through the rubber sail gasket in the same location. Pull away the rubber gasket from around the mirror sail. Remove the white plastic strain relief tab. Using the shorter of the two wire harnesses from the kit and starting from the inside of the mirror housing, route the wire through the mirror housing. You may need to use gopher wire to route the wire. Mirror Replacement Continued 8 9 Following along the existing factory wire, route the new wire through the mirror sail. Leave about 4 inches of wire in the mirror housing. Assemble the mirror housing and mirror. Replace the rubber gasket on the mirror sail. Remove any slack in the wire. Replace the strain relief tab. Connect the Signal® mirror mating connector to the Signal® mirror wire harness. If heated, connect the factory heater wires to the heater terminals on the Signal® mirror. NOTE: There is no polarity so the wires may be interchanged. 10 11 Tuck the wire harness behind the Signal® mirror. Align the hinges in the top of the mirror mount. If the front lamp being serviced is on the same side of the vehicle as the engine fresh air intake tube, unsnap the air intake tube from the air cleaner housing and remove it from between the lamp and the radiator yoke hydroform. Remove the three screws (3) that secure the two lower and the upper inboard lamp mounting brackets to the front end sheet metal. If equipped, remove the push pin fastener (2) that secures the upper outboard lamp mounting bracket to the top of the radiator yoke hydroform. The lower inboard lamp mounting bracket is captured between a metal mounting bracket on the top of the front frame crossmember and a tab of the plastic front fascia reinforcement. Push the tab of the front fascia reinforcement forward far enough for lamp mounting bracket clearance while maneuvering the lamp unit inboard during removal. Pull the lamp away from the front of the vehicle far enough to access and disconnect the headlamp and dash wire harness connector (5) from the pigtail connector on the back of the lamp housing. Remove the lamp unit from the vehicle. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. INSTALLATION 1. Check to be certain that the three front lamp unit plastic nuts (4) are properly installed and in good condition. 2. Position the lamp (1) close enough to the front of the vehicle to reconnect the headlamp and dash wire harness connector (5) to the pigtail connector on the back of the lamp housing. 3. Position the lamp to the front of the vehicle. Be certain that the lower inboard lamp mounting bracket is captured between the metal mounting bracket on the top of the front frame crossmember and the tab of the plastic front fascia reinforcement. Push the tab of the front fascia reinforcement forward far enough for lamp mounting bracket clearance while maneuvering the lamp unit outboard during installation. 4. If equipped, install the push pin fastener (2) that secures the upper outboard lamp mounting bracket to the top of the radiator yoke hydroform. 5. Install and tighten the three screws (3) that secure the two lower and the upper inboard lamp mounting brackets to the front end sheet metal. Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (16 in. lbs.). 6. If the engine fresh air intake tube was removed during lamp removal, position it between the lamp and the radiator yoke hydroform and snap it into the air cleaner housing. 7. Reinstall the grille onto the front of the vehicle. 8. Reinstall the front lamp unit cover over the top of the lamp. 9. Reconnect the battery negative cable. 10. Confirm proper headlamp alignment.
