Disconnect battery. Disconnect harness multi-plug from engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor Fig.1 [2] . Disconnect harness multi-plug from mass air flow (MAF) sensor Fig.1 [4] . Remove protective cover Fig.1 [1] . Remove plastic tube from wiring harness Fig.1 [3] . Remove insulation tape from wiring harness. Cut engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor wiring and remove from cable ducting. Cut new engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor wiring a minimum of 120 mm long. Fit new wiring harness multi-plug to wires Fig.2. Repair wiring with repair kit listed. Seal with insulation tape Fig.3. Remove engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Fit modified engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Tightening torque: 18 Nm. Refit wiring harness multi-plug. Reconnect battery. Erase fault memory.

Model(s): Touareg with Tire Pressure Monitoring System Condition Tire Pressure Monitoring System Warning Light is ON. Service Note: Before performing this Technical Bulletin see Technical Bulletin Group 44 Number 04-02. – Perform the following three steps in order. 1. Check and, if necessary, replace Tire Pressure Monitoring Control module prior to VIN: 4D018766. 2. Reassemble vehicle and follow “store tire pressure values” instructions 3. Diagnosis information listed in VESIS under ’additional information 1. Check and if necessary, replace Tire Pressure Monitoring Control module prior to VIN: 4D018766 – Switch ignition OFF. – Remove bolt -4- (2x). – Pry driver side footwell cover -5- out of mountings near clip -6- using wedge T10039/1. – Pull cover out of rear mountings. – Disconnect footwell light -3- from wiring harness. – Separate wiring harness -1- from diagnosis plug -2-. 2. Follow instructions in Owner’s Manual “Tire pressure monitoring system” to store tire pressure values If system learns and stores values and no warning lights are ON. z Work is complete. – If system does not learn and store values or warning lights are ON. – Continue with Step 3.

DISASSEMBLY STEP 1. Unscrew knob and remove spring. Unsnap shift boot from neck of shifter. STEP 2. Lift up small carpet piece in rear of console. Remove bolt holding console to the car. TOOLS: Socket drive Extension 10mm socket STEP 3. Unclip (2) side panels from the front of the console. STEP 4. Remove (2) bolts securing console to center dash. TOOLS: Socket drive Extension 10mm socket STEP 5. Remove cigarette lighter/12V accessory panel and unclip wiring harness from terminals. Tabs on harness connections must be pressed to release grasp on electrical terminals. TOOL: Trim Panel Removal Tool STEP 6. Unclip trim piece near parking brake. TOOL: Trim Panel Removal Tool STEP 7. Remove console from car. STEP 8. Remove clip holding cable to shifter and slide cable off of pin. TOOL: Trim Panel Removal Tool STEP 9. Unclip ball-joint attachement on lower cable by spreading spring retainer. STEP 10. Unscrew (4) bolts from shifter base. TOOLS: Socket drive Extension 12mm socket 4 STEP 11. Gently pry edges of shifter retainers to allow removal from shifter base. TOOL: Screwdriver STEP 12. Remove shifter base from car. STEP 13. Slide out metal inserts from base bushings and remove rubber bushing. Repeat for all 4 corners. TOOL: Screwdriver STEP 14. Carefully cut off push-nut. TOOLS: Safety Glasses Rotary-tool w/ cut-off wheel STEP 15. Remove side arm assembly and spring from shifter base. Note orientation of spring. STEP 16. Squeeze locking tabs of shifter collar towards the center of the base. NOTE: It may be helpful to use a wide-blade screwdriver to pry tabs inward. Use caution not to excessively damage tabs. TOOLS: Pliers Wide-blade screwdriver STEP 17. Remove shifter collar. STEP 18. Remove rubber retaining ring.

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. 1. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Section 211-04. 2. Remove the passenger side air bag module. Refer to Section 501-20B. 3. Disconnect the antenna in-line connector. 4. Remove the RH instrument panel reinforcement bolt. 5. Close the glove compartment. 6. Remove the utility compartment. 1. Remove the four two part pin type retainers. 2. Remove the utility compartment. Disconnect the power point electrical connector. 7. If equipped, disconnect the compact disc changer electrical connector. 8. Release the compact disc changer electrical connector locator. 9. Remove the LH and RH scuff plates. 10. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels. 11. Position the LH and RH front door weatherstrip seals aside. 12. Remove the RH ground bolts. 13. If equipped, remove LH and RH instrument panel lower insulators. 14. Remove the instrument panel lower steering column opening cover. 1. Remove the screws. 2. Remove the instrument panel lower steering column opening cover. 15. Remove the instrument panel opening cover reinforcement. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the instrument panel opening cover reinforcement. 16. Disconnect the LH wiring harness electrical connectors. 17. Disconnect the electronic crash sensor (ECS) electrical connector. 1. Release the locking clip. 2. Disconnect the ECS electrical connector.

1. Place the gearshift lever in the neutral position. 2. Remove the hood ground strap. 3. Remove the hood. 4. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 5. Recover the A/C system. For additional information, refer to Section 412-00. 6. Remove the degas bottle. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 7. Remove the air cleaner and outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12. 8. Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock couplings. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00. 9. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the water outlet adapter. 10. Disconnect the throttle and speed control cables, and remove the return spring. 11. Remove the bolts and position the cables and bracket out of the way. 12. Disconnect the climate control vacuum supply hoses. 13. Disconnect the two heater water hoses. 14. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors. 15. Unclip the harness in three locations. 16. Disconnect the electrical connector. 17. Disconnect the evaporative emissions (EVAP) return tube. 18. Disconnect the A/C suction tube from the accumulator. 19. Disconnect and remove the A/C suction tube. 20. Disconnect the A/C tube and position the tube aside. 21. Position the A/C manifold and tube assembly aside. 1. Remove the bracket nut. 2. Disconnect the A/C tube and position the components aside.
